Popular far-right podcaster admits his side wants to ban fornication, adultery, homosexuality & more
There are a lot of libertarianish people out there who don't pay attention to what people on the Christian right actually want. Well, Michael Knowles, a far-right podcaster explicitly has stated that he wants to criminalize any sex outside of heterosexual marriage.
He's highly influential and extremely rich because so many Republicans agree with his views:

These people want to criminalize birth control, divorce, unmarried sex, and pretty much anything else not in the Bible.

"Despite criticism from LGBTQ Pride event organizers, Tennessee's Republican governor has signed legislation that bans drag shows from taking place in public or in front of children, and other states are considering similar measures."
Republicans talk a big game about American exceptionalism because of our "Freedom and Liberty" but the irony is that they really only care about their religious freedoms and they want those at the expense of our actual freedoms.
Freedom for me, not for thee.

We really are moving into another phase of America's shift into autocracy/theocracy. Nothing made this more obvious to me than seeing how Republicans responded to the situation in Ukraine. For decades these gun totin' rednecks have dreamed up scenarios about how their guns protect lives and freedoms of all Americans as if we were ever really in any danger of having our country overturned by a Communist invasion. And yet, that is a real life situation in Ukraine where millions of freedom loving individuals are literally fighting for their lives so they can have the same exact freedoms our founding fathers fought for. With all of their BS rhetoric and parading in 1776 attire, you would think American Conservatives would be the first to jump to support them, but no. Instead they side with the autocrat Putin and engage in all kinds of smears against Ukraine. Again, they don't care about freedoms. They whine about them all the time but they really have exactly zero idea what it is like to actually fight for your life and freedom for their families...a self-described “parent who no longer trusts Disney” blasted the company for teaching children to “be comfortable with or participate with immorality.”

I did not hear anything about outlawing fornication etc. Maybe he said such somewhere else. I believe there exists some extremists who want to follow Cromwell in such things. I am fairly sure they are uncommon.

Your perception of who's popular might be a bit outdated. These people are a minority of the public but they control the right wing media.

Alphus and Omegus, I pushed back a bit on your post not because I feel compelled to show you are wrong though I might hope you exaggerate a bit. I realize my image might he outdated and am open, interested, in more observations. I remain totally stunned by the extent of Trump support.Alphus and Omegus wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 12:37 amThe guy has nearly a million Twitter followers and is the colleague of the self-described "theocratic fascist" Matt Walsh who has 1.4 million.huckelberry wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 9:22 pmI read and then forced myself to listen to this link. Wait, what? Aside from William Schryver, I'm unaware of any conservative who has done this.
Are you sure you aren't mistaking Schryver for conservatives in general?

It's more common among populists than conservatives and Republicans. The spirit prison forum has plenty of comments from Culty about it. There are deep veins of distrust towards Ukraine among the MAGA crowd, too. Mitch McConnell may not question the value of military aid for Ukraine. But one doesn't have to look far to see the comments if one takes the very limited amount of effort and time needed to look into it. Semi-related, Rod Dreher, a very popular Christian right blogger, just got fired after turning his blog into endless obsessions about anal sex and children's penises:

Here's another post from him claiming that heterosexuality has to be "achieved."

Seems like he should apply for a blogging position at the Interpreter?“It never got weird enough for me,” once spoken by Hunter S. Thompson, is an apt mantra for the dedicated fans of eccentric conservative blogger Rod Dreher. Over the last 12 years, Dreher, whose blog at The American Conservative will post for the last time Friday, has built a cult following with some of the most bizarre diatribes in opinion journalism. He has warned that so-called sissy hypnosis porn is “profoundly evil;” detailed the “formal” Catholic exorcism of a friend’s suicidal wife; and recalled—in unsettling detail—the time he witnessed a Black classmate's uncircumcised penis.
Here's another post from him claiming that heterosexuality has to be "achieved."

What we have now challenges a presupposition that I long held: that sexual desire was fairly fixed. I think we now see that it is more fluid than we once thought, and that heterosexuality is partly something innate, but also something that must be achieved. That is, sexual desire is an overpowering force within each of us, one that we must be taught how to channel. I believe that most people are either predominantly heterosexual or predominantly homosexual in their desire, but that these boundaries aren't as sharply drawn as I once believed. Taboos play a meaningful role in telling people what they should desire, and therefore guiding them to maturity.
I think back to the all-male dorm I lived in during my last two years of high school. Think of a dorm full of 100 high school juniors and seniors, in the early 1980s. Imagine the pent-up sexual desire. There were a handful of guys who were out, or semi-out, as gay, and nobody thought anything of it. I remember a couple of them took advantage of the dorm administration's inability to recognize what was happening to get themselves assigned a room together, even though they were quietly a couple. A bunch of us envied them, and all the sex they must be having. The thing is, the only thing preventing any of the rest of us from doing the same thing was the internalized taboo against gay sex. Even though everybody in my class (to my recollection) was quite tolerant of homosexuality, it was also something that very few of us had any interest in experimenting with.

MAGA Republicans are the majority. People like McConnell are the minority. There will never be a libertarianish Republican Party again as long as people like Trump or DeSantis are around.honorentheos wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 5:27 pmIt's more common among populists than conservatives and Republicans. Trump has talked extensively of how he wants to have Ukraine surrender and allow Russia to carve out pieces of the country
https://news.yahoo.com/us-aid-ukraine-s ... 00184.html
Beyond him, however, almost the entirety of the Christian Right (which has far more power than miniscule number of libertarians in the GOP) has decided that they love Putin and see him as their ally against atheism and LGBT.

Putin deliberately encourages this viewpoint by talking just like an American right winger:
https://www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/pu ... transcriptLook at what they’ve done to their own people. They’re destroying family, national identity, they are abusing their children. Even pedophilia is announced as a normal thing in the West. And they’re recognizing same sex marriages. That’s fine that they’re adults. They’ve got the right to live their life. And we always, we’re very tolerant about this in Russian. Nobody is trying to enter private lives of people, and we’re not going to do this. However, we need to tell them, but look at the scriptures of any religion in the world. Everything is said in there. And one of the things is that family is a union of a man and a woman.
But even the sacred texts are subjected to doubt. Anglican Church is planning to consider the idea of a gender-neutral God. What can you say here? Millions of people in the West understand that they are being led to spiritual destruction. Elites are going crazy and this cannot be cured it seems. But our duty is to protect our children. And we will do this. We will protect our children from degradation.
