Well. Commanders have lawyers reviewing their decisions and actions to avoid that. The idea behind Congress authorizing war is because it would be lawful because, you know, that’s Congress’ lane.
So they'd be granting him power after the fact. Unless he surreptitiously slipped in and gained backdoor approval for it in advance. The military is possibly violating their oaths. in my opinion, this action is illegal and an impeachment should happen.
