The Party of Sedition
This is one of the big issues with the modern GOP and political conversation. During the 8 years Obama was in office, pundits from the GOP said outrageous things, a lot of exaggeration in some cases and pure BS in most others, about the President and Democrats generally, and my reaction would often be, "Jesus... freak out much?"
Fast forward four more years and now we find ourselves saying the exact kinds of things about Trump and his merry band of assholes as the GOP was saying about Democrats, because now it's actually damned true! If you say out loud that the GOP is encouraging treason against this country (which they are) you sound like an alarmist. If you say they are acting against their sworn oaths to the Constitution (which they are), they will say your "hair is on fire." (Stupid damned phrase, but it's what they know).
I just can't help thinking that the main things Republicans complain about and accuse others of are the things these assholes are most likely to do themselves, and because they keep doing it, they inoculate some people from taking very serious issues seriously, no matter which side is doing it.
We now have the party of sedition. That's what they are trying to do, despite their oaths to the Constitution. Now, what the “F” is going to come of that?
Here's the thing: I just want to tell every damned Republican who supports Trump stealing the election that, sorry, the US is a democracy. The Constitution, like it or not, is a document outlining a democracy. If you don't like democracy, then damned leave. You like authoritarianism so much, go to damned Russia, comrades. That's where you'll feel at home, you moronic assholes.

That whole Grand Old Party stuff seemed inaccurate. This Party of Sedition (PoS) reflects current reality.

The United States isn't a democracy. It's a constitutional republic. (At least, it was set up that way.)Some Schmo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 6:19 amHere's the thing: I just want to tell every _____ Republican who supports Trump stealing the election that, sorry, the US is a democracy. Really? So all those times our leaders went to other countries to promote democracy, they were doing it even though the US isn't a democracy? Interesting.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 3:29 pmThe United States isn't a democracy. It's a constitutional republic. (At least, it was set up that way.)
Yes, the US is a constitutional republic, with the idea it would be a democracy of the people, by the people, and for the people.
I had no idea you were an authoritarian. That's pretty strange for someone who purports to value free speech.A democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

Shades, this is a common misconception. Democracy is not inconsistent with a Republic. The U.S. is a Democratic Republic. Every state is a Democracy. And Trump is indeed attempting to overthrow that Democracy.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 3:29 pmThe United States isn't a democracy. It's a constitutional republic. I'm pretty sure anyone with a decent amount of money that they can't hide already has left.If you don't like democracy, then damned leave.
You're right. Congratulations on your reconquest.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

I am deeply ashamed of you for posting that nonsense! Until you posted that, I respected and appreciated you highly for providing this forum for us. No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

It occurs to me that Shades' claim of a sort of libertarianism must be an illusion he keeps, because the way he's talking today, he'd be a lot more comfortable living in Russia.
