I would love to know the who, what, where, when, why and how of last night in White House. Trump released his statement after 3am. Who talked with him? What did they say? What did he say?

There is scientific evidence that the earth is spinning faster. Maybe that's why it feels like history is being compressed. How much history can happen between now and January 20th? And there's the 'oh, by the way' fact of a Pandemic killing thousands of Americans each week.

And AFTER 1/20/21, I would imagine there will be an EXPLOSION of legal activity against Trump. I also think you will see a lot more facts revealed as the seal of the Presidency is torn away.

I know this doesn't quite answer your question, but I thought it was an interesting insight into the process when an anonymous staffer said that in his final, pre-recorded video message on Twitter where he was supposed to say 'stop the violence,' Trump ad-libbed the comments about stolen election and supporting the mob, and patriots being so unfairly treated, which in my opinion were the things that got his Twitter account suspended for potentially inciting violence. So his staff is trying, but then they still posted it, which to me shows there is NO control, and NO guarantee things won't go badly again.

In that sense, I think calls to unseat him now are appropriate. Or, now I'm just spitballing, but maybe someone could convince him that if he steps down, Pence would pardon him for everything (which he can't).

Here's my 2 cents on the current situation. I think whatever advisors are left in the White House could present to T the following scenario.

These are your choices. Leave office via the 25th Amendment, Impeachment or Resignation.

They have legal means to remove you and you got a pen. You decide. Because either way, you're out.

Then in his resignation (and in his mind) he gets the last word.

So, Pence effectively acted as commander-in-chief, as Trump was unwilling to do so. De facto use of 25th amendment, then. Although I don't know the technicalities of the rule, somehow, it's comforting that that was able to happen. I'm sure the actual work around will end up being something about delegation, so the story can be told without putting anyone in jail, but the bottom line is, effectively, the President was unable to lead, so the chain of command moved on. At least that part worked correctly. Small consolation, though, after the damage done.

I recall reading that the 25th amendment was enacted over concerns of something like a coma or a stroke rendering President unable to lead. Can we add mental illness to that category? Demagoguery? Narcissistic grandiosity? Inability to ascertain reality? I know, I know, all politicians are narcissistically grandiose.

Lem as I look back over that old post which was a copy of the CNN breaking news scroll, it looks like it says that Trump called in the Nat'l Guard. I do absolutely recall hearing a commentator (?) say that Pence made a call to tell them to hurry it up.
