Re: Well, it's Over!
I hope this impeachment acquittal doesn't diminish the chances of successfully indicting and convicting him for other real life crimes he has actually committed. Can you imagine that? Trump going down in history as not only being the only President to be impeached twice, but the only president winding up in prison, despite having been acquitted in an impeachment trial? I find it interesting that Mitch McConnell is of the opinion that Trump may still be vulnerable to prosecution and conviction in ordinary criminal courts, even for the charges brought against him in the impeachment of which the Senate failed to convict him by the required 2/3 majority.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

After voting to acquit, McConnell accuses Trump of 'disgraceful dereliction of duty'
Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, who voted to acquit Donald Trump of incitement of insurrection, is now delivering a blistering speech about the former president.
The Republican leader said Trump committed a “disgraceful dereliction of duty” by refusing to intervene as his supporters carried out a violent insurrection at the Capitol.
“There’s no question, none, that President Trump is practically, and morally, responsible for provoking the events of the day,” McConnell said.
McConnell emphasized that the insurrectionists turned violent because Trump had told them a series of lies about the presidential election.
“They did this because they’d been fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth because he was angry he lost an election,” McConnell said. “This was an intensifying crescendo of conspiracy theories.”
The Republican leader then pivoted to making a jurisdictional argument against conviction, saying the Senate is not meant to act as a “moral tribunal”.

That piece of crap doesn't have a moral bone in his body anymore than Trump does. Don't let his words fool you, he's a cowardly crook and immorally vaunted man.Gunnar wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 11:17 pmI hope this impeachment acquittal doesn't diminish the chances of successfully indicting and convicting him for other real life crimes he has actually committed. As it was, many of them were simply scared s***less, either through fear of losing their seats in the next voting round, or by direct threats to the personal safety of themselves and their families.Gunnar wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 9:17 pmTrump has been acquitted unjustly once again, this time for inciting an armed insurrection against his own country and government, this establishing the precedent from now on, that virtually nothing a President can do is impeachable, and that the impeachment clause in our constitution is effectively not much more than empty words as useless as teats on a bull.
2. Given that the Democrat prosecutors must have known the result in advance, we have to ask what their goal might have been. I think they knew that Trump's standing with his full-on crazy base was untouchable by anything they did- but they did conclude that the public exhibition of Trump's culpability and its consequences would solidify and add to Trump's losses of support amongst 'normal' Republican voters, losses that cost him both the Presidency and the Senate. And on that basis I think they did a pretty good job.
A secret ballot? That's real democratic. Wouldn't want thel voters knowing what their swamprats actually vote for.

And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

I have no idea what Xanax is saying since I have him on ignore, but I have to assume from experience it’s something akin to:

Hold on just a New York minute. I'm listening to McConnell's speech. Is he encouraging a criminal and/or civil suit against Trump or is he not?

This might be due to turtle-like response speed. McConnell may have been unable to press the guilty button in time.Chap wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 9:30 pmAnd there's this too:
