Does anyone know if other boards were also discussing this intriguing item?

Hi OOMM,

With the exception of Plutarch NOT answering my question regarding his assertions on this thread.

Plutarch... where are you?

I could see them archiving (but not reading) reports from Truthdancers site. They could file it under "Potential Risk via Wellness".

I think Jason is right. I'd say most missionaries spend most of their time with the poor. Yet Shades has a point as well. I always like to point out that the first language that the Church used to proselyte in South America was not Spanish nor Portuguese, but German. I guess they knew where the money was, or more importantly where it wasn't, and might create a very dangerous and unfavorable osmotic shift of resources during a tender time for the upstart Church.

The reason they started teaching in German was because German members who had fled to South America from post WWI Germany wrote and asked for support. The Germans in South America were far from wealthy; in fact, most were dirt poor.

Actually the article was posted on CEO/BYU, a very legitimate organization at BYU. I think it is strange that the article was taken down with no evidence of it ever existing (at least that I could find). Other recent posts are listed but not this particular article.

Anyway, while it is not "the church" I'm fairly certain it has the backing of the church, involvement of the brethren, and is funded (at least in part) by church resources (since it is sponsored by BYU).

The reason why I'm curious as to whether or not other boards were discussing this page (while I don't thoroughly study the subject lines of each and every thread on MAD or RFM or Z, I do skim them once a day or so, depending on the topics, and I didn't see any threads about this) is this. If this is the only board that has been discussing this page and its ramifications, then that would mean that "someone" is tracking even this board so carefully and is so reactive that the URL would be removed simply due to this discussion alone, that would indicate a couple of things to me.

One, I consider this board relatively small and minor, comparatively speaking. Two, the reaction was very fast. To me, this indicates that they (whoever "they" is, "the church", according to that BYU article) have enough people on board to track not only a massive number of anti-mormon sites, but also to track them carefully enough that even a critical analysis on a minor board results in immediate action.

in my opinion, this is wandering into the extremist scientology/type extent of internet control.

Ah. The poster who uses as his handle a euphemism for masturbation. How stunningly appropriate for this board.
