Ad Hominems and comment to Jason

Post by _Coggins7 »

To all to whom I so aggressively attacked this past week, my apologies. I haven't been feeling well at all the last 10 days or so and I allowed some of the threads here and the things being said on them to set me off.

While I do consider many of the things said and bandied about in this forum to be outrageous, uncivil, and less than above board intellectually, this in no way gives me license to abuse either those who are abusive themselves or those I believe to be here just to stir the pot or float questions and commments I perceive to be less than ingenuous.

Expecially to Jason: I lashed out at you in a way that was uncessary and inappropriate, so my special apology to you. Although we cleary disagree on some points and you have, for some reason, some concerns that I do not share regarding the church, we clearly share more than not. You received some displaced anger and frustration that was more properly aimed at some others here, so again, sorry.

My new year's resolution with respect to this forum is to be careful about the tone and timbre of my posts, and to hereafter just avoid certain people with whom civil discourse is highy improbabe or impossible. It is, of couse, my own choice to be here in the first instance, so I'm responsible for choosing my interlocuters and sparring partners appropriately.

This post received no comment at all. Why? Here is my response to the above:

Exceptionally good form, Loran. Image

We could all stand to be kinder and more civil to each other. Thanks for your post, Loran.

I think it's important to affirm a person's integrity when they demonstrate it. I also like the idea of Loran sitting at his computer, scratching his head and wondering "Why's she being nice to me?"

Hi Coggins.

Thanks. You know, I really believe your heart is in the right place and you have honset concerns for me. One thing I noted in your post to me was a suggestiion to pray more and spend more time in scripture. That is sound advice and I will do more of that.

Thanks again

Many of your posts are very thoughtful and sincere, Loran, and I appreciate reading them.
