That's an interesting, if minor, question...I would say B.H. Roberts work is more damaging, because it's better researched, written and thought out, though I concede the amount of damage that can be done by wackiness.

Yes, they both did damage in their different ways. I would agree that BH Roberts was the more damaging of the two, if only from the point of view that he has more credibility with non-Mormons.

Fortigurn, you gotta check out his rant about how archaeology "proves God has a body."
I was shaking my head throughout the whole thing as Kerry's said he was proving via archaeology that God has a penis.

And what the hell is he doing trying to be all witty with these annoying sentences with a dozen adjectives and adverbs beginning with the same letter? He sounds like a blathering idiot. He sounds exactly like I would imagine William Schryver speaking.
I downloaded it and made it all the way through the podcast. It was funny in my opinion. Funny and nauseating and flat out strange all at the same time. Kerry sounded so unbelievably satisfied with himself. His smugness combined with the utter absurdity of what he was saying kept me in stitches.
I have to say all his talk of God's ejaculate made me feel kind of dirty like I inadvertantly got some of that "spilled seed" on me by listening to the podcast. Eww.

You have to be joking. Please tell me you're exaggerating.

Would that be spiritual sperm or godly gizz?

Hmm, maybe that's where I went wrong. If I had listened to it as comedy, instead of trying to take it seriously, perhaps I would've been able to make it through the whole thing.

No, sir, I am not exaggerating. Not only did Mr. Shirts mention God's ejaculate repeatedly, using the exact term "ejaculate", calling it God's great creative force, he referred to God as "spilling his seed" in acts of procreation and described the look of satisfied joy on his wife's face. He was essentially commenting on God's incredible sexual prowess.
Two of his sources were the Kabalah and the Zohar - and the entire podcast was about God's penis and how He uses it. No joke.

Kerry is an idiot. What he doesn't tell you is that El was a BULL. Even the picture found with Yahweh and his Asherah, depicts him with a bovine face, complete with a tail. Ugaritic tales speak of El having sex with other gods and giving birth to buffalo.
Mark Smith would be pissed at the way Kerry misrepresents him. He refers to a specific tradition in very ancient Israel and Ugarit, and Kerry automatically equates this with "the biblical God." He constantly says things like Smith concludes that "God had wives, had sex, had a penis, etc." When in fact Smith is a Catholic who believes no such thing about God. Kerry only reads enough of a book to become dangerous.

Fair's fair dartagnan, maybe he just doesn't know?

He does the same with Reiser. He misrepresented Reiser to me several times, probably assuming (and hoping), that I hadn't read Reiser for myself. Of course, when called out on his misrepresentation he fell strangely silent.
