No worries The Nehor. I wasn't very polite or in control of myself in that thread. I deserved every single judgement that I encourntered. How's those kidney stones (was it kidney stones?) doing?

Dougnuts? There's food here.... Yum! :)

I now gorge myself with lots of water....no more problems. Thanks. Actually I think one person is still on strike against doughnuts here. Eating them in front of him might be rude ;)

Maggie,

You most definitely don't sound like a troll. But then again, those who exercise their reason a bit too much over on MADB are often seen as trolls.

Good luck on your faith journey, you sound very happy with what you are finding. Someone mentioned that you had been talking to evangelicals. Don't let their opinions color what you search for. In society, the strawman used against something is always the loudest and most obnoxious example of that something one can find. That is the same across the board. I'm sure you'll find out for yourself how broad the spectrum of evangelical Christianity is. Have fun!

I hope your bishop isn't as coercive as mine is. I went through this discussion with one who convinced me to come back, and then I asked for my name to be removed via SLC the second time.

There's nothing wrong with wanting a different perspective on your spiritual journey. I wish you the best. Glad your husband's in it with you.

I don't know if anyone has read Maggie's blog on myspace, but I just wanted to comment on how honest and deep-thinking this individual is. There are some here, for whom religion is indicative of no thought at all, but I would love to know how they feel about the complexity of humanity just ending at death, and why. Another thread, if any of these individuals would like to explain that. I really do want to know, I think its important to understand you.

Maggie, if you're reading this, I think you'll help many people on their journey, and you sure have impressed me. I feel as you do about having been LDS, it was a stepping stone to Christ. I think that you have the capacity to teach people on a spiritual level, that's what I'm getting from your blog. Who knows what God has in store for you next.

Thanks for sharing with people your journey. That is not an easy thing to do, especially from the point of view you have. Many will ridicule you, it takes a lot of courage to do what you're doing.

Kudos.

Juliann had this to say about the Tanner lawsuit against FAIR:

The reason she lost is because satire is protected.

She forgot to point out that this is true only in the courts and not at MAD itself. Humor at MAD, unless emanating from Dr. Peterson, can result in a summary judgment against you.

Maggie, I'm really glad you didn't blame it on Juliann.
I determined to never let anyone else dictate to me either by their actions or beliefs
whether I should join or leave a religion. So far, that principle has served me well.

Which is why I don't understand why the first presidency continues to send out letters
to those who have resigned from the church saying sorry if they have offended them,
(I suppose meaning people rather than finding doctrines/history difficult)

It shows a marked misunderstanding of why many people seem to be leaving nowadays, which
is more over Joseph Smith's character and the very much greyer nature of the history of the early
church, which of course has implications for many on the veracity of the 'truth' claims.

Just my opinion of course.

Mary, I never got one of those letters, heck that would have been nice. Because in some sense I was offended by what I experienced. What I got in response to my sending my resignation letter were more missionaries, even though I asked to be left alone. They called several times a week until that final month passed. The only reason no one came by is becaused I threatened to call the cops. That is sad, that I had to go that far.

Some people have doctrinal issues. Some people, like me, have cultural issues with the church. But that doesn't mean that some of these wards aren't crawling with the rudest most self-righteous people imaginable.

There are undercover Julianns in wards all across the US. To me, that is scary. Having someone sit beside you and be kind until you question, then devote a great deal of time to harassing you thereafter.

She isn't the sole reason I left, but she sure didn't make it difficult to.

Here's the pdf file of the letter (which is a standard one I believe)

Bryan, sorry if this link is too big, I have no idea how to shorten it to 'here'.
