The charge, continually leveled by "Rollo Tomasi" and "Mister Scratch," that I orchestrated or even participated in a deliberate campaign to smear Mike Quinn is not true.

So far as I'm aware, no such campaign occurred. If such a campaign did occur, I wasn't involved in it and I know nothing of it.

Period.

Whether there was a "campaign," per se, can be subject to disagreement; however, there was certainly gossip going on behind Quinn's back about his sex life. I came to this conclusion based on your postings at FAIR in or around April 2006, many of which can be read here:

Thanks for visiting.

There undoubtedly was gossiping. It would have been odd if there had not been.

However, I can't recall ever initiating any conversation about Quinn's sexual orientation, and, to the best of my memory, don't believe that the subject came up, in my presence, more than half a dozen times over the course of probably more than half a dozen years.

Somehow -- I couldn't begin to explain how, because I don't know; in any case, it was none of my doing -- Quinn's homosexuality seems to have been a fairly open secret among many people engaged in Mormon studies (both believers and unbelievers) for several years before his actual "coming out of the closet." Todd Compton and I were surprised when we were told about it, but I don't ever recall anybody else expressing any surprise. My sense, frankly, was that the two of us had evidently been a bit oblivious to what many people already knew. (The person who mentioned it to us -- a well known Mormon liberal -- was plainly surprised at our surprise.)

I'm tired of being misrepresented and maligned on this matter.

I know the feeling. I've gone several months without a donut, and still no retraction. ;-)

I guess we'll just have to agree on the gossip part. Your friend's speaking with Quinn's SP also seemed a significant 'red flag' to me about the rumor-mill. From what I read (from you and others), I concluded that Quinn had been shabbily treated by his fellow Mormon scholars. Therefore, my posts on the matter were to stick up for him (especially after the Wall Street Journal article), not to malign you or anyone else.

Is that directed at me? I have no idea what you're talking about.

Not in a Light in the Darkness kind of mood today?
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

And you have proof of this? Or is it merely a belief?

I'm not "A Light in the Darkness," and never was. Nor do I know who it is.

Of course I don't have proof of his mood. It was a hypothesis. That's why I asked.
