Are new names given out during temple sessions always of a scriptural source?
Or, when for instance, in the Tokyo Temple in sessions conducted in Japanese
language, do they give give out New Names that are Japanese in origin rather
that biblical in origin?
.
I suspect that some scriptural names are not used as "new names". Would that
be an accurate assumption? For instance, Lucifer, Nehor, Herod, Pharaoh,
Nebakanezer, and other villians are not used as new names. Although, I had heard
that Cain has been used as a new name. Has Jesus been used? In latin cultures, Jesus
is a fairly common name. Also, heard that non biblical names such as
Frederick and Margret have been used. So it seems a new name does not need
to be to be scriptural. True?
.
Can anyone explane to me what the significance a "new name" has, if everyone on
any particular day gets the same name. that is their is one name for female and one
name for males that day. God is going to call you through the veil using your new
name but when he calls (lets say) Amos their could be millions if not billions of Amos's
coming up to the veil. I don't understand the point of the new name, seems a bit silly
to me. Can anyone enlighten me why TBM's, find this new name important.
.
Also, from what I understand, after your personal endoment, you never use your new name
again, because on subsequent temple sessions that you attend your going through for
someone else and your using the "name of the day".
.
If you do forget your new name, can you just pick a name for yourself that you fancy?
.
Do all temples use the same "name of the day" for any particular date? Do temples
record the "name of the day" so if someone forget their new name, the next time they go
to the temple, a temple worker can look up the "name of the day" of the date that person
got his/her endowments?
.
How and who chooses the "name of the Day"? Does the First Presidency send out a
calendar with the names to be used for any particular date?
..
I realize TBM's won't be able to answer these questions, but perhaps some exmo's will have
knowlege they can share.
New Names.... in foreign cultures are they different?

I don't know the answers to a lot of your questions, but I remember being told that if I ever forgot my new name (which no matter how hard I try, I probably never will...see here. Warning, link goes to a telestial thread.), I could get it from the temple where I received my endowments if I had the exact date.
