Good call sailgirl. It's about time we had some U2 in this thread...!
I think 'One' was voted the best song ... ever - in Q magazine over here.
I donno about the best song ever, but it's gotta be up there...!

I personally think this might be the best U2 song - ever...
With or Without You: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEfSnjL0pd8
...hmm - saying that, how it can not be this one...?!
Sunday Bloody Sunday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFM7Ty1E ... ed&search= (Not such a proud moment to be British :/)

Where the Streets have no name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpVbLm4T ... ed&search=
Desire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bjNHzU8 ... ed&search=
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fBj2wsi ... ed&search=

The newer stuff's good too - I'm impressed how long U2 have managed to keep it going, and yet not start to lose it...

Vertigo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhWZ7bpfQag
Elevation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDTV1ZeRBJw
Sometimes you can't make it on your own: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf0I5c1gmO4

And I've always really liked this track:
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T4j7UZe ... ed&search=

I haven't seen them live, but my friends always report to me when they do.

One of the most mind-blowing experiences I've had was listening to the four CDs of Zairika (sp?) simultaneously on four separate stereos which encircled my friends and I.

Sounds wicked!
I hadn't heard of this though...! Looks like it's 'Zaireeka'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzEfJkfIGIc (You'll probably get bored pretty quick - unless your crazy. I kept listening for far too long to this guy...! He does get to actually playing the stuff at about 5 mins)

Sounds like the Ambisonic stuff we did at uni (I did Audio System Design).
We used a Z-field microphone to make some recordings, which you could then use to reproduce the recording in full 3-D, using a circular array of speakers. This wasn't cheap 5.1 surround or anything -this was very accurate placement of all the original sound information in 3-dimensional space.
Pretty freaky - it worked really well... (I rememeber loads of off-their-head students wandering around in the middle going 'Woah'!)

Zaireeka (thanks for hooking up the spelling) started out as the "Parking Lot Experiments." Wayne created 40 cassette tapes and had them played in loud car stereos in synchronization. The man is a genius.

Ahh man - there's too many great Madness tracks...

One Step Beyond: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0sVcWbqpug
It must be love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnTmRKuMqqs
Our House: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SceUX2HOHeU
Night Boat To Cairo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSTHMxBttlU

Hmmm - and how have we gotten this far without any Jeff Buckley?!
Grace: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siNsgbIWhAQ
Hallelujah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsa_xWLO ... ed&search= (Try not to let the way the odd word flashes up in the slightly wierd video get in the way of the sheer brilliance of this song. I swear - the first time I heard this, my heart just broke - without even really understanding why. I know the original song wasn't Buckley's, but I do think this is the best version of it - by far - ever...)

I love that song, Gaz! It's so catchy.

Here's Carolina in My Mind sung by Allison Krauss. I think she has the voice of an angel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn8tixOYiZ0

And here is the same song sang by the incomparable James Taylor. I think he's so handsome in this video!

This has been a great thread, Gaz! Thanks for starting it.

Alison Krauss is amazing. Get her hitched to the right song and she is just stunning.

I tried hard to find any version online of her song "Moments like this" from the "Twister" movie soundtrack. Its one of her best, easily.

Heres another favorite of mine, her duet with Brad Paisley on Whiskey Lullaby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3dJu_27wLM

If you girls haven't seen this one, get a box of tissues handy. It stars Rick Shroeder of Silver Spoons and Lonesome Dove fame.
