Yet, polygamy, along with sending married men on missions effectively created mass numbers of single mother homes in the early days of the church.

The church still does the same thing. I remember Sister Hinckley saying something to the effect that Gordon did a great job of raising his children over the phone. Most people I know whose fathers are or were in church leadership positions talk about their fathers rarely being home. Heck, I remember having to back out of trick-or-treating with the kids one year because I was elders quorum president and had to do some ward service. My good friend, whose father was my bishop and stake president during our growing-up years, tells me that his father was never home during that time.

Well I must say I have been away a lot due to Church callings. For 8 years of marriage I have left at least by 6 AM and not sat with my family every Sunday. For about 9 years I have left been at PECs of HC meetings and not helped get my family ready. Sunday has been one of the busiest days of the week and more tring often then a working day. I have often complained to my wife that for a Church that promote time with family it sure takes a lot of that time away.

That's only for investigators, Runtu. For the rest of us, time is about church, not family.
