Why?
I think it's perfectly reasonable to call someone on hypocrisy. Bob does it to us all the time. I still think that the person who did this should at least be "outed."
I was more curious as to why Jason made that statement. I think, if we are to comment on someone's behavior, the most hard-hitting way to do it is to work within their own rules and beliefs. It therefor seems strange that Jason would think we should be unable to do so.
As for whether to "out" the guy -- well, revenge isn't really my style. If rcrocket thinks he has a case, he should talk to a lawyer, and contact me. I'll help in whatever way possible -- but online vigalantism seems simply foolish to me.

I agree it was idiotic - but I'm not sure there's any 'legal' issue here is there? All of the information posted was 'public'.
Anyone could go and get the same information. for Dan Peterson, Bill Hamblin, Will Schryver, etc. If you don't want that information. out there, don't post using your real name.
WK: "Joseph Smith asserted that the Book of Mormon peoples were the original inhabitants of the americas"
Will Schryver: "No, he didn’t." 3/19/08
Still waiting for Will to back this up...
I'm not advocating online vigilantism. By "outing," I didn't mean that said person's private information should be shared. I'm not into revenge, either. For whatever reason, this episode has seriously pissed me off. It's probably just as well that I don't know who did this, as whoever it was would instantly lose any credibility they had with me.

Which is why I say most of the responsibility for safety relies on the users themselves. There could be a legal case, but as I'm not a lawyer, it's up to rcrockett to decide how to persue it.

This may be the silliest thing you've said yet.
If a guy calls himself a football player, and then picks up a baseball bat, do I have to be a football player to say, "Hey dude, what's with the bat?" Or do I simply have to know the rules and conventions of football? Are retired football players not allowed to call people on poor football performance because they no longer play? There go all the coaches.
However much you might wish your statement to be true, unfortunately for you, it's not.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
I've been gone for a few days, actually I'm glad I missed all this.
Basically, I'm paranoid about the internet to a degree, that's why I hide behind this plastic potato face. I am too paranoid to have an avatar like the beautiful Liz or Kimberly or GIMR, etc. and use real faces. I am too paranoid to put my kids out publicly like dart and Nephi do.
I am paranoid and try to stay as anonymous as possible.

Am I too paranoid?
Perhaps, but I don't think you can be too careful.
I remain anonymous strictly because it's not important who I am in relation to what I'm saying. I use a cartoon avatar because what I post is a caricature of who I am. I don't care if people take me seriously, and recognize that many people likely don't.
I couldn't care less about the critical charges regarding anonymity. I think people who bring that up only do so because they aren't as confident about their own assertions, or as a sort of ad hominem to discredit people (although how it actually does only makes sense in their own heads, because it's obviously not a reality).

I could care less that he is a bishop, but posting the information is a little over the top.
When you have spent as much as your life on the Internet as some of us have, it isn't difficult to find your address, phone number and other information. There is really no such this as anonymity anymore period.
Next time, just state the guy is a bishop and let him come out and defend it.
