"The Eyring and Cook Story," or "A Miracle&am
I posted this on another thread, but I thought it deserved its own thread.
According to sources on RfM (ok, questionable in accuracy perhaps), Eyring and Cook were friends at Stanford and they are both related to the Kimball clan.
If it is actually the case that the two share these connections, I think we can see how truly glorious the miracle of Elder Cook's calling is.
Who could have imagined that the Spirit would tap Quentin L. Cook, of all of God's children, to be the apostle to replace Elder Eyring in the Quorum? The odds must be infinitesimal!!! I am truly humbled by this miracle. I call for a moment of silence.

And they say Mormon leaders aren't as inbred as the rednecks in the hills of West Virginia. R-i-i-i-ght.

I don't know about the latter, but I believe Eyring went to Harvard.

I think Eyring may have been a professor at Stanford, but I could be WAY wrong there.

You are right. He was from 62 to 71. http://www.historyofmormonism.com/henry_b_eyring.html And Cook graduated in 66. So they were there at the same time.

Well, there you go. Don't you imagine they gave Eyring's opinion special consideration when it came to the matter of who would replace him on the quorum? Just wondering.

You are probably exactly right. In any case, I don't think it was God who picked Cook.
