I DO NOT respect beliefs that justify unethical behavior if it somehow serves "God's will."

Nor do I respect magical or superstitious thinking in its other various manifestations. People who believe in this kind s*** (some religions included) deserve to offended, though for propriety's sake, we may prefer other people to do the offending.

Let me guess. You remain a member of the Church and have not resigned. Let me further guess that you look the other way when family members, perhaps your wife, uses community assets to contribute to the Church.

Looks like there is some begrudging respect going on, wouldnjasay?

Yup, member not resigned, out of consideration for wife.
Wife pays on income she earns, I don't pay on income I earn. I make 5 times what she does.

I respect my wife's freedom to choose and practice her religious beliefs. I knew them when I married her. I try to show respect in the sense that I don't go out of my way to criticize or make light of them to her. I also respect the feelings of my various Mormon family members and Mormon acquaintances, and I do not criticize their beliefs in front of them (though I think they're damned silly).

On the other hand, there's little in Mormonism that I truly respect. I believe it to be a silly, authoritarian, racist, sexist, homophobic, quasi-cult.
God . . . "who mouths morals to other people and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, . . . and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship him ..."

And I am happy to agree that I was overly uppity in my post, and could have simply said “go back and re-read the context of my comments to Beastie.” In my defense though, there was a huge line at Starbucks this morning, and I had to forgo an iced vanilla latte that I needed oh-so-much.

On the other hand, in LDS apologetic terms my experience is that whenever "so-called" is used, it serves as an attempt to take away some of the impact of an unwelcome reality that cannot be denied.

This is possible. Admittedly, I haven't encountered it all that often (or at least don't recall). Dr. Martins' usage may not have even stood out to me if it hadn't have been for the recent hub-a-ballub over Dr. Peterson's letter.

Please do try to give up smoking, even 'Ultra-Lights'.

I hear the Lutherans have coffee and donuts. I might go back to church if the Mormons did that ...

You must have way better cooks in your ward than we ever had to make it worth it.

I hear the Quakers have oatmeal (nyuck, nyuck, nyuck).

The Steussites have brownies.

You must like casseroles consisting of tater tots floating atop a mixture of Cream of Something soup and Miracle Whip. Blech!

No, we can save it, Steuss!

I submit that a bad potluck casserole may have been the impetus behind DCP's rude remarks to CKSalmon. Dr. Peterson was likely jealous of the good food served at the potlucks of Presbyterian churches and was delirious from Miracle Whip consumption when he lost his composure and lashed out at Chris.

At any rate, DCP's comments really need no commentary. They speak volumes about him on their own, in my opinion.

PS - You are a dirty boy, Steuss. And as long as we're quoting Wilco, I'm trying to break your heart.
