Just snippets--nothing complete. I'll definitely post the first one when it's done. (I just got my plastic toy tapirs in the mail the other day!)
I'm constructing everything in the comics ~99% in Photoshop (other than the figures themselves--which are 12" GI Joe dolls, and the animals--also plastic toys), so I'm still building.
See the thread below for some "teaser" material.

And here's a couple of, more or less, "test" images from early on.

ROFL!
I thought to myself, "Surely, someone makes plastic toy tapirs. And I only need ask Mr. Internet to find them."
I was right.

I bought a triple pack--made in China, no less (where tapirs have never roamed).

Now, I just need someone to purchase the 'Ol Woolly for me, and I'll be set (and will be able to deal with those frustrating "elephant"-nay-macaw inscriptions....

I can't wait!!!
(by the way, I think tapirs are kind of like cult movies...shockingly popular for such a bizarre critter)

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

First there was the Book of Zelph, then Brick Testament, and now this.
I am on the edge of my seat to see this, and then for the review by Dr. Dan Peterson and his FARMS cronies. PacMan and William Schryver and LifeOnaPlate will be in on it for sure.
It's gonna be good in 2008!

The images you've posted already are very good. I especially like the rather poignant horsie in a field by himself in this thread and I'm saving a copy for myself.
I wonder if you'd find the work of Laurie Simmons and David Levinthal of interest? They are artists who have made use of photographing small plastic toys in various settings. Then there is the woman whose name always esapes me who has been building ambitious cityscapes (San Francisco, for example) out of molds of jello. Her work is a bit one note to me, yet still slightly evocative due to her medium.
Here's one of Levinthal's most famous phographs:
