For Mormons and Exmormons: Object Lessons in Church
Good grief. I've gotten sucked into a thread on MAD. Thanks a bunch, Scottie! :P
Scottie mentioned my Licked Cupcake essay there, and I went over to explain a bit about it and I'm surprised at the reaction of the posters on that board. I've already been called a bigot and essentially compared to anti-Semites.
At any rate, some of the Mormons on that board are claiming they've never heard of such object lessons as the chewed gum lesson, the licked cupcake lesson, the nail pulled from a board lesson, the destroyed cake lesson, etc. I find that shocking, frankly, and would like to know what chastity object lessons, if any, you had as a Mormon youth.
Thanks a bunch for sharing!

Not just anti-Semites, but German-speaking Jew-haters.
Of course they're not going to admit that these lessons are commonplace. They recognize that such lessons are repugnant and antithetical to the notions of the Atonement. I've heard the same lessons you have, and so have they.
Did they all crawl out from under a rock? Good grief!
Some of the younger folks.....under 30...I might buy this from....But if you're over 35, and have been a member of the Church most of your life, I would be hard pressed to believe that you hadn't been submitted to at least ONE of these object lessons.
I'm 43, and they were commonplace in my Young Women meetings.

Alter Idem said over on MAD that her daughter had the "destroyed cake" lesson at YW Camp this summer! I guess the object lessons are still going strong in some areas of the country.
And I think some of those posters over on MAD did just crawl out from under a rock.

Yes, these object lessons existed. My sister had the smashed cake one. She was in young womens in the late 80's. I specifically remember a lesson about the evils of masturbation when I was a Blazer B (also in the 80's). It wasn't an object lesson per se, but I remember my teacher telling us that he was thankful that he was married so he had "an outlet". I hadn't even hit puberty yet. Amazing. The apologists will claim that these lessons were taught by renegade teachers and in no way reflect the teachings of the holy gospel. ;)

Oceania is at war with Eurasia. Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia.
That is the slogan, motto, and clarion call of the Internet Mormons.
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

I'm reminded of Jason Biggs destroying the pie in American Pie. Even R-rated movies have some truth.

Hmm........ interesting as I read that thread about guilt. I was never taught a licked cupcake lesson and yet society went ahead and made me shamed anyway.
I wonder if whether you're licked or not you're just screwed as a woman either way in this society. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Ah well.

First person is given a Lifesaver. Instructed to put the Life Saver in his/her mouth. Then remove it. Pass to the next person, pass to the next person, on down the rows. The last person is instructed to put the Life Saver in his/her mouth and of course they won't and there is much ewwwwing at the thought. Well, that's how it is when you are slutty, too.
A very sticky and unsanitary object lesson!
