Is this even in the right thread? Nice going. Here's an award for you; The oblivious insensitive bloviating fool award.

one moment, of the well of life to taste-

Go for the bunnies, poly. You like the easy target. Like a bully in a schoolyard.

Nah, its more like beating up the retarded.

I'm glad you agree with me on this one. It seemed like you were on poly's side on this. Glad to see you have a heart.

It's too easy with Jersey Girl. She is so predictable. OK I will stop picking on her.

Is that what they're calling "evading the question" these days?

Uh, that would be her two older daughter's track record. Not their mother.

Can you walk and chew gum at the same time?

Can Porter answer a question in one shot or does he need two pages of blathering before he tries to?

Let's back up the truck. Mercury created a new topic thread ostensibly for the sole purpose of mocking Marie Osmond (whose father has just died and son is now in rehab for substance abuse-wow, just think of the humor opportunities!) who gave an interview to Larry King. Some posters have shared personal accounts of their experiences with the substance abuse of their children. And this is what Porter has to "offer":

LifeOnaPlate wrote:
It's disgusting when people find joy in the misery, failure, or shortcomings of others. I think we have some good examples of that in this thread. Nicely done.Joy?

Now, watch the outrageous claim Porter is about to make.

Porter:

I pointed to facts. Cry me a frigging river.

Now what we have is another kid who will be possibly be in need of government aid, and who caused it? Rich Mormons.

When the following question is posed to him:

Jersey Girl:
Why will he possibly be in need of government aid?

He replies with dodge #1:

Porter:
You wouldn't understand.

When the question is posted to him for the second time:

Jersey Girl:
Are you sure it's not because it doesn't make sense? How could he possibly EVER be in need of government aid?

He replies with dodge #2:

Porter:

Since you do not fully understand the dynamics of a Mormon family, you would not understand.

Based on the above reply/dodge#2, another serious question is posed to him:

Jersey Girl:
Really? Explain to me the dynamics of a Mormon family, make that rich Mormon family, that would render a child in need of government aid.

To which he replies with (you guessed it) dodge #3:

Porter:
Ah no, you claim to be quite the expert at all things Mormon. So figure it out Professor Mormonstudies.

And while he struggles to further dodge answering the questions put ofrth to him, he shifts focus even further on to me. I ask him to support his statement:

Jersey Girl:
Show me anywhere on this board, in any post I've made where I "claim to be quite the expert on all things Mormon".

You don't appear to be able to support an actual claim that you yourself made on this very thread. Instead you erect a flacid strawman about me. The hallmark of one who has not a leg to stand on in discussion/debate is the one who shifts focus to the person challenging them instead of responding to the challenge.

How old is the son? How could a child of a rich Mormon family ever possibly be in need of government aid?

Talk out your ass much?

After asking twice for the age of Marie Osmond's son, LOAP offers that he is 16 years old and I reply as follows:

Jersey Girl:
Thank you, LOAP. 16? That makes Porter's ignorant claim all the more ignorant. Apparently Porter lives in a world where a rich Mormon family wields godly almighty power (inspite of the social services system), can dup their 16 year old into rehab, abdicate all parental responsiblity and render the kid in need of government aid.

Holy crap! What wisdom!

So THAT'S why Porter has to hurt people's feelings and can't answer a blessed question posed to him. Suddenly it all begins to make sense.

Sort of.

Not really.

Not at all.

Now, after repeated dodges, Porter attempts to answer the original question that was posed to him.

Porter:

This boy would not be the first to be socially ostracized from his Mormon family for not being a good Mormon boy. ONCE this happens, the family funds begin to dwindle, down to the point that he gets no money and has no money and still has drug problem. Soon he turns to Uncle Sam, or is turned over to Uncle Sam's government funded rehab program in either a hospital or prison.

But since Jersey Girl does not understand Mormon families like a former Mormon family member would, it is tough for her to see this.

The knowledge that former Mormons have is not something you can glean from eight years of posting on message boards, sorry Jersey Girl.

When I challenge his complete lack of reasoning as follows:

Jersey Girl:

Porter,

See? I give you a paper bag where you only have to unroll the top and you still can't think you're way out of it. It doesn't matter A DAMN how much his family would like to "ostracize him". He's 16 freakin' years old. They are bound by freakin' LAW to support his druggie butt. The funds of a rich (nationally/internationally known) Mormon family don't "dwindle down" to the point of any damn thing!

Let's try a Wal Mart bag next time, okay? They're already open at the top.

How well I know!

Porter offers this "response":

Porter:

You need to huff into that bag granny.

How stupid can you be? His habit could continue until he is 18 and then his family is no longer legally responsible for him.

Uh, Porter? One doesn't need to be or have been LDS to know that you haven't got a blessed clue as to what you've stated in these exchanges nor are you able to back your claims. The finances of a "rich Mormon family" don't "dwindle" and as far as your comments regarding the status of the child's substance abuse issues and what they "could" be at age 18, the prophetic portion of your comments above do nothing to support your vapid claims either.

Nice try.

Wouldn't it be refreshing if Porter's "schtick" were able to make even a simple thought rise?

Tori, Trinity, Runtu, and Bond,

Your comments on this thread draw attention to the serious nature of substance abuse and mental illness. It was treated superficially and for "laughs" from the get go. A parent (whose life circumstances we know only from the tabloids) is not deserving of accusations of responsiblity for their child's substance abuse and/or depression. Thank you for your comments here, you brought it round to where it should have been from the start.

I think people need to remember that we as humans are curious - we want to belong to a group to - it's natural - it forms nations and it sends us to the moon. The issue with drugs is a serious. I have not used illegal drugs - if I did I would be homeless or dead, beause I'm very obessive compulsive and paranoid (thanks to the church) If you are lightly depressed and you take speed and you have a heart beat of 160 for the next 12 hours you have the warm and fuzzies to the 10th degree that's what people are seeking: it's the presence of the Holy Ghost times ten. the issue is the personality of the person, the genes, and how you react to it - you can take 10 relief society presidents and give them crack cocaine for 1 week and let them go on with their life and in one year they will have left their family, they will be walking the streets in a big city trading crack for sex - There is a chapter in the Odyssey where they cover their ears so they don't hears the sirens because if they do, just once, they are gone - it's like that with people who use drugs. Some escape but most of the time it can be a life altering event.
