Mexicans Are Lamanites And So Are Hawaiians

Just some excerpts from dedicatory prayers of a few temples. The Kirtland Temple dedication made it into the D&C, so can we not infer that these prayers also are "inspired" words uttered by "modern-day prophets?"

Apia Samoa Temple - DEDICATED 5-6 AUGUST 1983 - BY GORDON B. HINCKLEY

"We are grateful for these beautiful islands of Samoa, and for Thy faithful Saints who dwell here. Jacob, son of Lehi, declared anciently: "Great are the promises of the Lord unto them who are upon the isles of the sea" (2 Nephi 10:21). We have witnessed the fulfillment of Thy covenant, for Thou hast not forgotten them."

Also:

"Wilt Thou smile with favor upon this Holy Edifice and by Thy power preserve and protect it. Frustrate the designs of any who would conspire to damage it or defile it in any way. May the grounds on which it stands be ever beautiful with the grass, the flowers, the shrubs, and trees which are of Thy creation. May the structure in all of its aspects be preserved from the ravages of nature, and any vandalism or defilement of man. May the Building function properly in all of this generation and of generations to come visit it frequently and use it for the accomplishment of Thy divine purposes remembering always while so doing that they are guests in Thy Sacred House."

On July 9, 2003, the temple was engulfed in flames. It was rebuilt, and rededicated in 2005.

Buenos Aires Argentina Temple - DEDICATED 17-19 JANUARY 1986 - BY THOMAS S. MONSON

"Wilt Thou, our Father, continue to bless the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and likewise the descendants of Lehi and Nephi, that the promises contained in the Holy Bible and in the Book of Mormon may be brought to fulfillment and our homes and families blessed abundantly."

Cochabamba Bolivia Temple - DEDICATED 30 APRIL 2000 - BY GORDON B. HINCKLEY

"We remember before Thee the sons and daughters of Father Lehi. Wilt Thou keep Thine ancient promises in their behalf. Lift from their shoulders the burdens of poverty and cause the shackles of darkness to fall from their eyes. May they rise to the glories of the past. May they recognize their Redeemer and be faithful and true Saints of the Most High. May they seek learning out of the best books (see D&C 88:118). May the enlightenment of education bring new and wonderful opportunities into their lives."

Guatemala City Guatemala Temple - DEDICATED 14-16 DECEMBER 1984 - BY GORDON B. HINCKLEY

"Thou Kind and Gracious Father, our hearts swell with gratitude for Thy remembrance of the sons and daughters of Lehi, the many generations of our fathers and mothers who suffered so greatly and who walked for so long in darkness. Thou hast heard their cries and seen their tears. Now there will be opened to them the Gates of Salvation and Eternal Life"

"We thank Thee O God, for lifting the scales of darkness which for generations clouded the vision of the descendants of Lehi."

Laie Hawaii Temple - DEDICATED 27-30 NOVEMBER 1919 - BY HEBER J. GRANT

"We thank Thee that the plates containing the Book of Mormon were preserved so that they could be translated, and that Thy words to the Prophet Joseph Smith might be fulfilled; namely, "That the Lamanites might come to the knowledge of their fathers, and that they might know the promises of the Lord, and that they may believe the gospel and rely upon the merits of Jesus Christ, and be glorified through faith in His name, and that through their repentance they might be saved.

"We thank Thee, that thousands and tens of thousands of the descendants of Lehi, in this favored land, have come to a knowledge of the gospel, many of whom have endured faithfully to the end of their lives. We thank Thee, our Father and our God, that those who are living and who have embraced the gospel are now to have the privilege of entering into this holy house, and laboring for the salvation of the souls of their ancestors."

Rededicated in June 1978 by Spencer W. Kimball:

"And we are duly grateful, our Heavenly Father, that as stated in the Book of Mormon "that the Lamanites might come to the knowledge of their fathers and that they might know the promises of the Lord, and that they may believe the gospel and rely upon the merits of Jesus Christ, and be glorified through faith in His name, and that through their repentance they might be saved." We are deeply grateful, our Heavenly Father, that some half a million or more of the descendants of Lehi now are respected and loved members of this, Thy kingdom."

Lima Peru Temple - DEDICATED 10-12 JANUARY 1986 - BY GORDON B. HINCKLEY

"We are particularly mindful this day of the sons and daughters of Lehi. They have known so much of suffering and sorrow in their many generations. They have walked in darkness and in servitude. Now Thou hast touched them by the light of the everlasting gospel. The shackles of darkness are falling from their eyes as they embrace the truths of Thy great work. Surely father Lehi has wept with sorrow over his posterity. Surely he weeps today with gladness, for in this holy house there will be exercised the fullness of the priesthood to the blessing, not only of those of this and future generations, but also to the blessing of those of previous generations."

Mexico City Mexico Temple - DEDICATED 2-4 DECEMBER 1983 - BY GORDON B. HINCKLEY

"Bless Thy Saints in this great land and those from other lands who will use this Temple. Most have in their veins the blood of Father Lehi. Thou hast kept Thine ancient promise: Many thousands that walked in darkness have seen a great light (Isaiah 9:2). May the harvest that we have witnessed here foreshadow greater things to come as Thy work rolls on in power and majesty in this, The Dispensation of The Fulness of Times."

These modern day leaders just had a superficial understanding of the gospel.

There has been furthur light and knowledge given to apologists.

Most are mestizos, having both Spanish and Native-American/Amerindian ancestors.

I think we Mormons should have the right to back off that Lamanite claim in a graceful manner, as initialed by the change in the Book of Mormon introduction. By putting us more in accord with the realities of these ancestors, we are strengthened in our understanding of what is true.
