Good question. Ask an apologist. If I understand it correctly, the idea is that if Adam was the first man, his was also the first spirit, so all those who came before Adam weren't men and didn't have spirits.

Or... maybe they had spirits created by a different God, hence didn't look exactly like the man/God who created Adam. Or, maybe they had spirits but they were not human spirits but a different primate sort of spirit.

;-)

I've never heard a decent way to integrate evolution with the LDS doctrine/beliefs/teachings.

That goes right along with the idea that angels are a different species.

I won't bother....since I'm as well-read as many of them and know that this is baseless speculation they threw out and is going to be endlessly repeated. Hooray for the Internet. "Sustaining and Maintaining Stupid Thought for Decades"

Somewhere someone who dreamed of the Information Superhighway is crying right now :)

Hmmm. Sounds remarkably like when Brigham was speculating about Adam and God. Stupid thoughts weren't invented with the Internet. ;-)

I personally think Brigham Young knew what he was talking about. However my thoughts are out there and would only add to the morass of speculation so I'll keep my mouth shut.

So you agree with him that Adam & God were the same person.

So Brigham Young was wrong and, thus, didn't know what he was talking about.

Which is it?

I think Brigham Young was teaching about celestialized, mortal, and spirit beings (and their relationships) in a paradigm not taught in the Church. There were a few cases where I think his word choice was poor and misleading but I'm working on what he was trying to say. I think I'm getting somewhere, I could be wrong. It's not that important, just a hobby of mine that so far God has let me pursue.

If you want to say I'm insane, feel free. :) I feel like I am sometimes when trying to work this all out.
