Glen Beck

Post by _dartagnan »

I have heard a lot about this fellow while living in Brazil. I'm back in the states now and have seen his show on every night.

I can't stand to watch more than 3 minutes of it.

Who is this guy anyway?

His shows consist of some journalist interviewing him every night on political topics as if Mr. Beck is supposed to have an informed opinion worth listening to. Every aspect of his show is a knock off against Gore's movie. For instance, his book is called an "inconvenient book." His show is called an "inconvenient segment," etc.

He strikes me as a goober.

Someone told me he is LDS. Is this true?

I believe he is the brother of Martha Beck, who notoriously accused Hugh Nibley of sexual molestation in her book Leaving the Saints. Not surprisingly, she was the subject of a very lengthy smear thread on the ironically named (at the time) FAIRboard.

Wasn't Beck her married name and Nibley her maiden name?

And isn't this the way stupid rumors get started! Or did you know she was really Martha Nibley Beck, and this was just a way to drag that piece of junk onto the board again?

I highly doubt that Glenn Beck is any relation to Martha Nibley Beck's ex-husband.

But yes, he is a convert to Mormonism. See:

I liked Beck's radio program about 5-6 years ago. I think it was that long ago? Maybe not? I listen to lots of talk radio and he was entertaining. His skits with Satan made me chuckle during a time when most other talk show hosts made me want to bang my head repeatedly against the steering wheel.

But, yah, I can't really watch his t.v. show. Doesn't do it for me. Some people should stick with radio.

There is no relation. Martha Nibley Beck is the daugther of Hugh Nibley; she was married to John Beck (now divorced). Both Martha and John are (or were) lifelong LDS members. Glenn Beck is a convert from a few years ago.
