Mercury-
This is really stupid what politics has come to. One guy who happens to be Muslim is getting 15 minutes of fame because he pulled a "gotcha" on Mitt Romney. I can do that.
So here's me: "Hey Mr. Romney, would you appoint any atheists to your cabinet?"
If he said, "No because they wouldn't pray and get inspiration from Heavenly Father in their daily choices," then I would be pissed and call him a bigot, and suspect he was playing to the religious majority with abandon.
But if he responded like he did to the Muslim fellow, "No because there's no demographic rationale," I would laught at the transparency of his campaign to get votes and donations from as many people as possible. There aren't very many Muslims in the US, and close to as many atheists, so why should Mitt commit to one of these nobodys in his cabinet? He really, really, really wants to be president: that's is main plan, and he's just being honest (or failing to calculate!) All those spots are reserved for his rich political and business supporters, and maybe keep some neo-con hawks around for the military transition. At least we can say there are many more voting homosexuals than atheists and Muslims, so he would probably pick a non-practicing SSAer before a heathen.
Romney will not appoint any Muslims to his cabinet

Why do you keep referring to the man as a (now disgruntled) Muslim? Are you going to start looking for him to become a Terrorist next?
Because that is what the man is. Idiot. Can't you read? You seem to be reading everything in the world except what the article actually says.
Do you get drunk at your local Rebel Flag toting bar and go hunting for "damn queers" to beat up too?
No but it seems you would probably do something like that with Mormon missionaries, drunk or not. Your hate for Mormons is too thick to deny, so it is hilarious that you would try painting me as a bigot simply because I refuse to buy the story of one disgruntled Muslim who cannot support it. You believe him because you want to believe him. You need to believe him.
And you are not defending Mormonism, you are defending the side who does not want to be seen as Xenophobic but in actualiy is by nature xenophobic.
I am defending logic and common sense. You are the one who is the bigot because you immediaterly leap to the conclusion that everything this person says is fact while denying Romney to clarify what actually took place. Again, it is simply unfathomable that any Presidential candidate would make this kind of comment.
What is the more likely story: The deranged christian-cannibalizing follower of the false god Mohamed is attacking a US interest and one must defend a known spin doctor
Yes, Muslims have a documented history of pulling tricks like these. So do gays, Christians and others with a political agenda. For example the Imams at the airport who staged scenes to use against politicians in their area. It is the usual "we are so persecuted" card they like to whip out. This person was most likely playing it, as it has been played time and time again. Muslims use it more than any group I know of so this is no surprise.
OR Romney said something bad about Islam, tried to cover it up and spun the incident via the hearsay inherent in the affair.
It is not likely that Romeny said anything bad about Islam at all. You have yet to provide a single piece of evidence that would suggest he "likely" did.
I think it is more likely Romney thought he was playing to the typical republican crowd of whitebread christian/Mormon/conservitave asshats you find trolling airport bathrooms for blowjobs and he had a "ill NEVER hire one of those damn ragheads" moments.
This is because you're an idiot in the line of coggins and charity, who doesn't know how to read or comprehend. Romney was asked a question in private so his "audience" was obviously a single Muslim American. If it were an open statement to a huge audience then there would be eye-witness support corroborating this man's claim. And if that be the case, then Romney never would have made the second error in denying he said it since one person could come forward and prove him to be a liar, destroying his entire political career.
