We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet

Post by _karl61 »

We thank thee, O God, for a Prophet
To guide us in these latter days;
We thank thee for sending the Gospel
To lighten our minds with its rays;
We thank thee for every blessing
Bestowed by thy bounteous hand;
We feel it a pleasure to serve thee,
And love to obey thy commands.

When dark clouds of trouble hand o'er us,
And threaten our peace to destroy,
There is Hope smiling brightly before us,
And we know that deliv'rance is nigh;
We doubt not the Lord nor his goodness,
We've proved him in days that are past;
The wicked who fight against Zion
Will surely be smitten at last.

We'll sing of his goodness and mercy;
We'll praise him by day and by night;
Rejoice in his glorious Gospel,
And bask in its life-giving light;
Thus on to eternal perfection
The honest and faithful will go;
While they who reject this glad message,
Shall never such happiness know.

you sing this song again and again and again, maybe fifty or maybe one hundred times or more when you are in the LDS church. And some say why can't you just let it go - ?

Ya know, I'm not sure exactly how that song is a tribute to prophets, except for the first 2 lines. Then it just goes on to say how great God is.

Just another "National Anthem" thingy... "God Save Our King/Queen" and a hundred+ more NAs. And countless religious hymns intended to stire one to glorify some symbol to which allegiance is plegeded by stupified masses, to to stupifying powers... "...wolves in sheep's clothing, that lie in wait to deceieve..." Warm regards, Roger

This part is nice:

"The wicked who fight against Zion
Will surely be smitten at last."

I stand corrected on who(m) it is written to although if the President of the Church is in the building all eyes are on him when it is sung. The smitten thingy also stood out because I'm pretty sure this was written in Kirtland which meant fleeing Kirtland, Missouri and Nauvoo were all in the future.

This is perfectly acceptable smittation, Steuss. The kind I object to involves castrations, throat slitting, massacres and decapitation.

(by the way, the prior smittation is mutual!)

And I wonder whether Mormons will do the smiting. You know the old saying, "we are God's hands."

I think they already did. Several times over.
