If true, why is Obama getting such good reception without having to explain why he is black?

What's to explain? His parents were black and it's not like he can change his mind and join some other race (ill-defined as race may be).

You were trying to compare a race nonissue with a religious issue, the issue of romneys wacky religion. I did not see how the comparison worked.

I think Romney's task will be not so much to convince voters that he will not take orders from the Church, but that he will not let what seems to non-mormons to be wacky ideas that are part of the Church, affect how he will conduct himself while in office.

His appeal need not be addressed to the voters religious prejudices, but rather their rationality.

I suggest an Elijah vs. Priests of Baal style battle.

I was making no such comparison. I was merely exaplaining why race is a nonissue while religion might be seen as one. You can choose your religion. You cannot choose your race.

Romney would go perfect as the priest of Baal.

I was picturing the same, Seth.

Nobody in America that votes, is conversion material for Mormonism. He's not selling the LDS faith - nobody's buying! He's selling the idea that faith can be good, he has faith in God. Mitt is not taking the opportunity to distinguish himself as being pert of a, "Peculiar people".

Race and religion are two different things. I think your assumptions fail when one realises that your race is set in stone, not your religion. If you are taught that if you are to have your throat slit if you give up the temple goods and you are to become a god after you die and stick with it, then that is a shade of Romneys character that is different than NORMAL.
