Call these hertical but still LDS are Christian. There are Christians polygamists today. Martin Luther performed a polygamous marriage. You do no own the term Christian nor do those claiming historical orthodoxy. Call us non orthodox, call us heritical Christians, but never the less Mormons are Christian attempting to say otherwise won't make it so.

I actually agree with this. "Christianity" is an umbrella with lots of different interpretations of Christ beneath it. But I also believe the same rule applies to calling yourself "Mormon." The FLDS and CofC have a right to call themselves "Mormons" if they wish. They can't call themselves the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, as that is a specific name for a specific denomination, but "Mormon" is an umbrella name with all the variations of Mormonism beneath it. If you believe Joseph Smith restored the church and the Book of Mormon is true, you're a Mormon. Warren Jeffs is a Mormon prophet, one of many Mormon prophets.

As noted I have no problem wit Jeff's saying he is a Mormon.

Uhhhhhh....my guess is he won't get any such calling while president.

Are you his bishop? Are you his Stake President? If the Lord needs Mitt to serve in his ward, I expect Mitt to be willing to sacrifice his time and talents. I'm sure Mitt can find time between cabinet meetings to call the people on his list to see if they did their home teaching that month.

No but really, there are instances where a persons outside life would preclude such a call. I mean just sorta maybe being pres may be one of those.

Let's face it. If Romney did actually become the next President of the United States, the move would be HUGE for the Church.

The hard-line fundamentalists would be wondering when we were going to meet up in Missouri.

;)

Somehow, I have a feeling that Salt Lake would make allowances, and not call Mitt to anything while he was President.

It is an interesting race.

I think that Mitt will have a hard time winning over the South, though. I really don't see it happening.

That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard a politician say (and I've heard most of Bush's speeches, so that's really saying something). If this guy gets elected, my family and I may have to move to the Bahamas.

Bye.

Right.

I'm willing to go on record, in order to be later mocked for having done so if events so unfold, and say there is no way Romney is going to be elected president.

I have lived most of my life surrounded by the very people that Romney will need to pull that lever for him - the religious right. I don't care what they tell a pollster, there ain't no way on God's green earth they are going in that booth and pulling the lever for a Mormon. They believe Mormonism is inspired of Satan, for cripe's sake.

I'm not saying they'd vote for a democrat, I'm saying they just won't vote.

I agree. At least, I hope and believe you're right.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

"Commander in Chief" isn't a big enough calling?

Somehow I don't see him having to do home teaching.

Maybe they'll vote for the libertarian / green / or independant candidate. I for one would like to see something other than republicans and democrats having a real shot at politics, especially at the White House.

Fine, but will his family be on the missionary calendar for dinners? What about building clean up? Maybe he could be 2nd counselor in something. The second counselors never do anything. There has to be some calling he could perform while president.
