How did they convict him of rape? Didn't those women consent albeit under false pretenses?

I think it would be 261-4 (c) in the California Penal code: the issue with fraud:

Wouoldn't it be prima facie evidence that she knew she was committing fraud because if she had been a real fortune teller she would have known she would be brought to trial and convicted?

Maybe she was just willing to be a martyr for the truth.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I like this answer!
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

The fortune tellers who advertise on TV at least make a clear disclaimer that the services are for "entertainment purposes only." I don't have a problem with that. I think equally though, practitioners of the priesthood should be required to make similar disclaimers. So, before anointing a home teachee, the home teacher should say, "The following blessing is for entertainment purposes only, no guarantee of healing is either expressed or implied.."
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Except they're not charging you anything.....if they are, I'd be suspicious.

I wonder what the saints in St. George, UT would have done if Lorenzo Snow prefaced his promise about the windows of heaven by saying that what he would tell them was "for entertainment purposes only" and no guarantee of rain is either expressed or implied. You know--right before he told them to pay their tithing.

Out a few bucks is less severe than avoiding medication or treatment because a healing is on the way.

Dangit! I just tried to set this as my new sig line, but it was too long. That was pure gold!

Do you keep a file of quotes like Dr. Peterson does?

Sometimes I fell like I'm scoring more points for the opposition than for my home team. Oh well, the coach hasn't kicked me off the team yet.

Nah, I don't keep a file at all, but I probably should. When I delete a quote from my sig to replace it with a new one, it's usually gone, and I'd have to use the search tool to locate the original post again, if I could even remember enough of it to do so.
