Why They Leave

Why They Leave by John Dehlin:

Hands down the best hour I've spent on the internet. If you are still in a position where you attend, this podcast/slide show is more than a breathe of fresh air.

How abuot a couple of sentences.

What questions did he find unanswerable? What temptations? There are those on another thread who tell me a person sins and then loses their testimony.

I don't listen to any personal stories that are an hour long.

Charity,

I wouldn't listen to an hour long personal story either. It's not. Its a combination slide show/ audio presentation dealing with why people leave the church, and how they can still remain active. Right up your alley actually. I found it completely riveting. Take a look if you care to.

Isn't that what you do every Sunday for three hours?

Charity -- If you have any desire to further scout out your apologetic audience, mormonstories.org is a great place to do it. I know you don't like podcasts - but at the very least listen to Ricard Bushman's interviews -- it will expand your view of the man you believe to be the prophet of the restoration..[/url]

It's always fascinated me that church members seem far less interested in understanding why people leave than they are in assigning reasons for people's departure. They must have sinned, or they never had a testimony, or (to quote Juliann) "Whatever." It's just a hunch, but if church members actually addressed the concerns of struggling members instead of blaming them for doubting, fewer people might leave the church in the end.

If you have Internet Explorer, there's really nothing required but to click the link, sit back, and listen. Not sure what the technological hurdle is here.

I'm listening to this right now. I think it's great. He doesn't support non-belief based on all of the typical stuff we discuss on these boards, but he does come right out and explain it, fairly straightforwardly, so that people can better understand what people are going through who give up faith in the church and leave it.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Well, who the hell cares why these whiny apostates leave in the first place? Sheesh, Seth, get with the program.

Maybe you aren't but your computer is.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably.
