Colorado mission shooter was inactive Mormon ...

Post by _Rollo Tomasi »

Like many LDS members on the rolls, he was baptized but quickly went inactive. See KSL report at link below. Let the spin begin ....

"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."

Why would there be any reason to spin? Is the church responsible for the actions of everybody on its membership list? No. There is no connection between the act and the church.

The church could spin this as positive. The shooter was inactive. This is what happens when you go inactive. Satan takes control of you.
"We of this Church do not rely on any man-made statement concerning the nature of Deity. Our knowledge comes directly from the personal experience of Joseph Smith." - Gordon B. Hinckley

"It's wrong to criticize leaders of the Mormon Church even if the criticism is true." - Dallin H. Oaks

I don't see any spin. So what, he was a Mormon. He wasn't representing Mormonism was he?

Some people may run with this stating, "See what Mormons do?" but I have always ignored this kind of drivel.

If anything it speaks to the quality of converts. He was the norm of converts. Get baptised, go inactive, continue smoking crack/being crazy/etc.

There is none, but the Church (and LDS apologists) are so sensitive to any negative perception that they'll engage in spin.

Or, some anti-Mormons are so eager to criticize, they jump on any new information to use as bait. :-) Seriously, this thread is the first time I've seen this mentioned. I've been hanging out a reading on both boards, even though I rarely post on MAD.

Go ahead on post this link over on the aptly named MADboard, making sure to point out that the shooter was LDS. Then, just sit back and wait.

It's already been brought up there (in fact, before it was mentioned here): http://www.mormonapologetics.org/index. ... opic=30753

It hasn't garnered that much attention, and appropriately so.

It just needs a little nudge in the right direction. If only I wasn't banned! >: (
