There is none, but the Church (and LDS apologists) are so sensitive to any negative perception that they'll engage in spin.
Or, some anti-Mormons are so eager to criticize, they jump on any new information to use as bait. :-) Seriously, this thread is the first time I've seen this mentioned. I've been hanging out a reading on both boards, even though I rarely post on MAD.
Go ahead on post this link over on the aptly named MADboard, making sure to point out that the shooter was LDS. Then, just sit back and wait.

I was reported for the first time last night on KSL, which is probably why you haven't seen it mentioned yet. Does this mean KSL is "anti-Mormon"?
"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."
-- Mike Quinn, writing of the FARMSboys, in "Early Mormonism and the Magic World View," p. x (Rev. ed. 1998)

Apparently it was interesting enough for KSL to put it on the air.

How come we never hear about inactive Catholic shooters....or evangelicals. Hey, if they're always saved doesn't that make it impossible to go less-active?
"Surely he knows that DCP, The Nehor, Lamanite, and other key apologists..." -Scratch clarifying my status in apologetics "I admit it; I'm a petty, petty man." -Some Schmo
I think that the question of whether the shooter's involvement with the LDS Church had any bearing on his mental state is a legitimate one. I don't think it is any different than inquiring into the ways that fundamentalist Islam may affect terrorists. Moreover, I think that Jon Krakauer presented a very compelling and persuasive case in Under the Banner of Heaven as to the ways that Mormonism can affect a kind of "God Complex" in people, thus giving them the confidence and impetus to commit horrible crimes.

Probably it has something to do with the fact that these religions aren't (or tend not to be) as absolutist as Mormonism.

An excellent point. KSL evidently thought that this man's LDS connection was worth mentioning.
And every other news outlet thought that this man's participation on a message board was worth mentioning.

Well, Steuss, what do you think? Do you think that this man's involvement with the LDS Church had any bearing whatsoever on his mental state?
I don't. Do you have any evidence of this? Maybe it was his Netflix membership that affected his mental state. I believe that it's irresponsible to speculate on this level, just to cast aspersions on an organization.
I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe / But at least I'm enjoying the ride.
