So this board is only for people who agree with you? Any alternative beliefs are "poking"? So what do you call it when a whole board is filled with people who actively attack someone else's religion? Or are Anti-Mormons the only ones allowed to voice their opinions and the LDS should just bend over and take it?

hypocrisy.

No hypocrisy, Josh. Just a level playing field, one in which posters who do not have their ducks in a row have a difficult time keeping their head above water. You have to know what you're talking about, or posters in this place will explain to you in words of one syllable why your point of view is skewed, wrong, or downright stupid. And no one minces their words. Peeling skin off without using swear words is an artform that is well developed here. (If you want to swear, head to the Telestial forum. This one is PG-13).

All beliefs are subject to the same scrutiny here. There is no "sacred cow". There is also no protection for either side here. And if a poster is the type who pokes the dog and then screams that the dog bites him/her, they get no sympathy here. Poke the dog all you want; expect the dog to bite you back. Don't scream when someone draws blood. That's the way it works here, on this board. On the Celestial board, the rules are different. No poking the dog allowed; no biting back allowed.

This is the Wild West. If you want it more civilized, head to Celestial.

You have GOT to be kidding if you think there is any hint of a level playing field.

That's where you're wrong, Jersey Girl.

Both are like the kid who pokes a dog with a sharp stick, and then complains when the dog bites back. Both are notorious on multiple boards for dramatic entrances and exits. There are few posters out there in Internet Mormonville (or Exmoville) who have similar reputations.

Look lady or sir,

I didn't magically appear from out of nowhere on this board. I've known of and about both of them for several years.

Ditto.

And in the grand scheme this means what? If you want to contribute to turning this board into one huge and idiotic personality pissing contest believe me when I tell you that there is nothing I would do to deny you your own time wasting experience. By all means, carry on!

Excuse me while I extract myself from this inane b***s***.

I've been banned from virtually every pro-LDS board there is, Josh. Heck, I'm still banned from Z, MAD, and LDStalk! Shades created a place where ideas could be discussed with a minimum of interference from the mod squad, whihc means no one is ever banned. That's right: no one is ever banned! From the prospect of one who is often banned, that alone levels the playing field.

If you want to present the pro-LDS viewpoint, marshall your sources and go for it. Someone else will no doubt present a different viewpoint (maybe mainstream Christian, maybe atheist, maybe agnostic, maybe Catholic, maybe pagan) with their own sources. Posters have even been known to use your own sources against you. No one will ever be banned for any reason here, not for being nasty, personal attacks, or having unpopular ideas. And you can change sides as often as you want, even in the middle of the discussion.

It takes a bit of getting used to sometimes, but if you poke the dog... expect the dog to bite you back. No one will protect you and no one will come to your rescue. You have to know your stuff, and sometimes you'll get your head handed to you. We've all had that happen, even our PhDs. And yes, we have those too.

Oh, bull. This has NOTHING to do about knowing your stuff. It is about who can slam who fast enough and quick enough.

If you want reasoned discussion, you can't poke the dog. And you can't blame the dog for biting you, when you started it. This isn't a slanted board. If you want a slanted board to pro-LDS, try MAD or LDStalk. If you want a slanted board to anti-LDS, there are many. Any and all sides have the same opportunities here. It's wide open territory. Some people can't handle that kind of freedom. They come here and immediately post something confrontational, misunderstanding what that would unleash, then spend the next 200 posts whining and complaining about the personal attacks and lack of discussion.

I notice you declined to interact with Richard, who offered you a calm discussion. Why? Perhaps because he refused to bite back?

So if I want a reasoned discussion, I have to offer ideas that are similar to everyone else on the board. That's even.

Everyone gets the urge to act like a jerk every once in a while. They indulge, have their fun, and move on. Some people have no other approach to the board than acting like jerks. They are so used to doing it that they can't recognize anymore when they are being jerks (all of the time). Instead, they act like jerks, and then whine when people treat them like the jerks they are.
“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”

Your first act of self-reflection in a long time. Good for you, josh.
