WASHINGTON, March 10 — In the months before announcing his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts contributed tens of thousands of dollars of his personal fortune to several conservative groups in a position to influence his image on the right.

ast December, a foundation controlled by Mr. Romney made contributions of $10,000 to $15,000 to each of three Massachusetts organizations associated with major national conservative groups: the antiabortion Massachusetts Citizens for Life, Massachusetts Citizens for Limited Taxation and the Christian conservative Massachusetts Family Institute.

Mr. Romney and a group of his supporters also contributed a total of about $10,000 to a nonprofit group affiliated with National Review. Over the past two years, he contributed $35,000 to the Federalist Society, an influential network of conservative lawyers. And in December 2005, he contributed $25,000 to the Heritage Foundation, a leading conservative research organization.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Guys who go for VP do so for what used to be just one reason, and that was to position themselves for a future run for President. Cheney changed all that, by adding a new reason, ie: to be the puppetmaster pulling the strings behind a total moron of a president.

McCain is too old to go VP now. Some people think he's already too old to run for President. Add another 4 or 8 years to that and it'd definitely be too late. For McCain, it's now or never. Probably never. Too bad, though. I like McCain in a lot of ways, though in some others not as much.

I don't really like any of the current crop of Republican candidates. I've voted Republican for President since my first election after I turned 18. That may change. I don't know.

Except for the black helicopter crap about Cheney pulling puppet strings, you make a good point that it is now or never for McCain. :-) I think it's more likely he'll pick someone from Florida. Not Jeb, but someone popular because that state will be up for grabs again, and probably a pretty close race. Sorry to sound wishy washy, but I'm still thinking about it and I like to think out loud sometimes. :-)

That's ok, I'm still thinking about this stuff too. I really don't know where I'm at in this election cycle. After listening to various candidates with an open mind, to be honest the one I liked the most was Barack Obama, but I know there are positions he holds that I also disagree with, and am not sure I could actually pull the lever for him. I don't know if I'll go Republican again or choose a Democrat this time. There are things the Democrats are for that I just wouldn't want to support, like more gun bans.

I am very, very undecided about all of this at this time. In the past my mind was already made up far in advance, but not this time. A lot's changed for me in the last four years, and it's not all just in the political sphere - a lot of it's about my beliefs, and what's important to me.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

I think the press is scared of Mitt's Romney and what he would do to Hillary. They are pushing Huckabee now because they want him to win the endorsement and then slaughter him in the election with his thoughts on AIDS and other issues.
