Indeed! Sorry I didn't frame that more as a, "you're tellin' me!" I was agreeing with you, and I admit I didn't pitch it correctly.

Now that I have made my apologies...

Yes! It is amazing to me how poorly this guy has done on the rhetorical front. On NPR today I heard that when he tried to explain the "saw my father walk with MLK" thing, he said something to the effect that he didn't mean it like "I saw it with my own eyes," but more like when a person figuratively says I saw the Patriots win the World Series (?!?!?!?!) this year.

Geez. Talk about foot-in-mouth disease!

Romney's answer isn't even Christian. Don't Christians believe that Jesus talked to Saul/Paul in a vision on the road to Damascus. Oh wait, I guess Paul couldn't keep his story straight about the light and voices. My bad.
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

Exactly. That's why his answer is so incredibly stupid.

Here is the problem as I see it... :-)

You come from a position where the LDS church seems pretty normal, with regular folks who happen to believe a few different things than mainstream Christians.

You do not seem to realize that most non-members do not experience Mormonism in this way.

Mormonism to many folks is very odd, cultish, strange and filled with some very unusual doctrine not to mention a history of fighting against some important laws of our country. There is often a fear of Mormons because of their unusual doctrine.

Rightly or wrongly, this is often the opinion of non-members.

I do not think it is unreasonable for people to ask a presidential candidate who is wanting to be the most powerful man in the world, questions about his beliefs and his religion that they view as destructive, odd, cultish, or harmful. I'm NOT saying it is any of these things, I'm saying this is the impression of many folks around the world.

The people I work with, none of whom are Mormon, find this obsession with Mitt's religion strange as well.
