I think that's just an urban legend that missionaries take advantage of. Nowhere in the "white Bible" did I ever see an exception made for Christmas and/or Mother's Day.

It may have changed in the last two decades since I used to attend, but I always thought fathers got the shaft in the church, with barely a mention on Father's Day, while speakers waxed on and on about mothers on Mother's Day (as all the ward's mothers marched up to receive their potted plant gift).
However, now I see it as putting women on a pedestal to make them feel better about not actually having any power in the church hierarchy. How can you be slighted when you're actually in charge of everything?
I'm sorry for you guys in your wards. Our dads get chocolate chip cookies. And the sacrament meetings are always about fatherhood. The best part is when the youth speakers talk about their dads and you can see Pop wiping his eyes.
I believe they have to use [url]http://myldsmail.net[/url. No yahoo or gmail accounts allowed because they can't be monitored. Missonaries must use the restricted mail and aren't guaranted their writing is private.
The email system policy states
Be careful about what you put in writing. The e-mail system may record all messages sent and received. E-mail should be used with the expectation that messages and use may be monitored and reviewed at any time by any authorized representative of the Church. The system should not be used for communications that are considered confidential.

How do you know. Were you ever one? I was. I actually enjoyed it and look back at the two years with grand fondness. During that time an awkward 19 year old grew up, learned a lot about life, became confident, learned to work hard and have taken all that I learned into other endeavors that I have been quite successful at.
No I was never a missionary so I would not know, but reading these posts tells me enough that it would suck.
Of course you liked your mission but there have been many others that have not.
Now I have read that the church has cut their monthly money for food down to 110.00 a month. How can anyone live on 110.00 dollars a month for food? They must be hungry all the time. Doesn't the parents pay close to 400.00 a month to the church for the missionary? So where does the rest of the money go?
The church is so rich I would think they could support the missionaries themselves and have them living in lap of luxury because the missionaries are the salesmen for the church and should be paid accordingly. Instead they are living in run down places and forced to live on 110.00 for food. Something does not add up here.
When I wake up I will be hungry....but this feels so good right now aaahhhhhh........

There are all kinds of expenses for missionaries. Apartments, utilities, gas for cars if they have a car, etc. I imagine it is different in areas depending on affuence, but in our area, the missionaries have dinner every night with a family. The other day we took our 3 granddaughters to lunch at Pizza Hut. While we were there, the two elders assigned to our ward, came in for lunch. My husband picked up their tab. The boys don't starve.

Without experience of your own, you simply do not understand. That is why we don't have a paid ministry. Our missionaries don't go on missions to live a life of ease in luxury. They go to serve the Lord, and they live a simple life, as did He.

First month out, you pay the full $400 too regardless of if you're out the entire month or for a few short days. And yes, they do go hungry.
