Ahem. . . (Charity clears her throat). . . . “Four score and.. . .oops. Wrong speech.” (Shuffles papers.) “Ah, here it is. I would like to tell you why I am a faithful Latter-day Saint, and why I will remain so the rest of my mortal life.
First, I have that which is most precious to me, and most ridiculed and mocked by many here–a spiritual witness. That cannot be successfully argued against by anyone. So I won’t speak of it more.
Second, even were #1 not true, I would still stay, because my life as an active Latter-day Saint is good. There are opportunities to be useful which leave me feeling satisfied at the end of the day. My inner life is rich and profoundly meaningful.
Third, people who are Latter-day Saints are good people to be around. They’re mortal and fallible, like everyone else, but they are good. They drop what they are doing in an instant to help someone. They grieve with those who have reason to mourn. They laugh with those who have reason to be joyful.
Fourth, I am never alone. No matter where I go in the world, I can instantly be among those who understand and know me, and I understand and know them.
Five, in all my studies and travels and experience with people, I haven’t seen a better system for promoting individual growth.
You may not give me a standing ovation. Or not.

How do you find the time to be useful when you spend so much of it here?
