What about the cycle of abuse. And how these poor women learned their abusive patterns and it isn't really their fault?

Your whited sepulchre is showing.

WTF?? You're going to have to clarify what you mean by this, because the way I am currently reading it is horrendous. So I want to give you the chance to clarify before responding.

I can't speak for Beastie, and dare not ever try. :)

Yet, I think compassion ends for me when my children are being hurt. Yep, that's the line I draw. Wish I wasn't so petty and vindictive. Yet, when it comes to my kids, I most definitely am.

Absolutely. She verbally attacked my bipolar son when he was at his lowest state. He was curled up in a fetal position, crying in the corner - and he was 15 years old. She deliberately went after the weakest one. I'm not sure what I would have done to the woman had I been there.

I'll warn you, Charity - if you go there, you're in for my wrath.

I never cause other human beings pain, so I can't possibly take pleasure in it.

I do, however, gain a great (nay, nigh infinite) amount of vicarious pleasure when abusers get their come-uppance.

You're either a recluse, a supreme being, or a fibber.

Anyone who is abusive, to spouse or partner, to children, has most likely been abused him/herself. When you are talking about women in abusive relationships, you talk with great compassion about how her behavior is shaped and she is not really responsible for staying and being abused. She doesn't have the power to resist the control.

A person who becomes an abuser is in just as much a grip of powerlessness to control their own behavior, according to the cycle of abuse folks. They abuse because they were abused. So you will speak very passionately in defense of women who are abused because they witnessed abuse in their homes growing up, but where is that same compassion when it comes to the abuser? They were victims themselves.

You can't have it both ways.

How is it that you ignore the compassionate statements beastie made about her husband?

In that case, let me rephrase: I never purposefully cause other human beings pain.

I didn't ignore that. I thought her response to Dr. Shades gleefully suggesting torture as pay back was great.

But I found it strange that after all her defense of abuse victims to say "she deserves whatever he dishes out to her" was pretty cold.

That's just one step away. If you and a buddy are robbing a store, he shoots the clerk, you get charged with murder.

Then you're way beyond me or are still a fibber. ;)
