Jersey Girl
;-P Couldn't resist.

I can't believe it. Two spelling errors in one week for me! I'm losing my touch!

I must now go and commit suicide. It was nice knowing you all.

I'd advise against it Shades. A friend and I sat down and tried to figure out the ideal way to commit suicide. There isn't one. Plus over half of suicide attempts fail. Odds are not good, my friend. Just accept that the English Language is a beautiful thing experiencing endless change on it's march towards perfection. That is what I tell myself when I do final edits on work done by my company. One day I need to sit down and explain to them that less is more when it comes to commas. I think one in three is actually necessary. Excuse me. I need to go beat my head against a wall.

You and your friend must not have much of an imagination then.

Several quick ways to off yourself:

1. Drive up into the mountains. Hike into the middle of no-where. Slit your throat.

2. Ingest mass quantities of meth, heroine, rat poison, and arsenic. Follow your "death shake" with a shotgun blast (preferable slug) to the head/throat.

3. Tie 100 lbs. weights to your ankles and jump off a ship in the ocean.

Quick yes but they're all messy and/or painful.

SHADES! YOU ARE A STINKER!!

Now I can't even type any--who--ha at all! Why did you do this to me? Is any--who--ha really such a disgrace to the English language? It is a BULLETIN BOARD for goodness sakes! Not a term paper. I just type as if I'm talking to people.

I do not say "anyhow"! EVER! Yet, I do say "any--who--ha" all the time!

Oh, I can't believe that AFTER I pointed it out to you you went and did it AGAIN to me. :(

Why? :(

No, I'm just a champion of the English language.

Now I can't even type any--who--ha at all! Why did you do this to me?

Don't take it personally. I also programmed it to recognize, and correct, any variant of a-n-y-w-h-o and/or a-n-y-w-h-o-o. It was a long time in coming.

Is any--who--ha really such a disgrace to the English language?

YES IT IS!! Seriously, you have no idea just how bad it comes across to the casual reader.

It is a BULLETIN BOARD for goodness sakes! Not a term paper. I just type as if I'm talking to people.

And therein lies the problem.

I do not say "anyhow"! EVER! Yet, I do say "any--who--ha" all the time!

And that's a bad thing, not a good thing.

Oh, I can't believe that AFTER I pointed it out to you you went and did it AGAIN to me. :(

Why?

'Cause I missed one is all.

Seriously, don't take it personally. The correction was made to correct a common misuse of the language, not to target you. It hunts down any such misuse, not just misuses you personally make. Remember, the English language is a thing of beauty to be respected, not a set of random building blocks to be hobbled together willy-nilly.

I disagree Shades! I love novel spelling and words that are cobbled together! I think sometimes it's witty and rather creative when I see what people can come up with on these boards.

The English language is booooring and any attempts to insert frivolity is a good thing.

by the way, quite a few men of this board have talked to me and not ONCE complained about my usage of any--who--ha or anything else that tumbled outta my mouth! So stick that in yer dictionary!

That may be so, but just imagine if everyone, everywhere loved novel spellings and words that are cobbled together. It would be quite inconvenient to read books, newspapers, road signs, or just about anything else. And what would we teach school kids?

I think sometimes it's witty and rather creative when I see what people can come up with on these boards.

You're right--people coming up with witty and creative things is good, but only when it's their ideas that are witty and creative, not their idiosyncratic linguistic mistakes.

The English language is booooring and any attempts to insert frivolity is a good thing.

I'm afraid that that's where we'll have to part company.

by the way, quite a few men of this board have talked to me and not ONCE complained about my usage of any--who--ha or anything else that tumbled outta my mouth! So stick that in yer dictionary!

I believe you 100%. But then again, few (if any) people are champions of proper spelling and grammar like I am, so what do you expect?

But seriously though, consider yourself lucky that you make few enough mistakes that they can be targeted for correction. When I read posts by a few others--who shall remain nameless--I literally feel like scratching my eyeballs out.
