Just for the record, I haven't voted at all because I know that Big Daddy won't let us have them anyway. One reason that I wouldn't like smilies installed on the board is because the sight of them becomes predictable and tiresome. I much prefer the occasional hit and run imported smilie.

2 cents.

How many smilies did Shakespeare need? 'Nuff said.

But I'm happy to report that everyone's perseverance paid off. I went ahead and installed smilies. Here's how to make them appear:

First, type a colon, like this: :
Second, type a dash, like this: -
Third, type an end parenthesis, like this: )

Doing the above in sequence will give you the following figure:

:-)

Now, suppose you want to express a frowning face:

First, type a colon, like this: :
Second, type a dash, like this: -
Third, type a beginning parenthesis, like this: (

Doing the above in sequence will give you the following figure:

:-(

Now, suppose you want to express a winking face:

First, type a semicolon, like this: ;
Second, type a dash, like this: -
Third, type an end parenthesis, like this: )

Doing the above in sequence will give you the following figure:

;-)

Next, suppose you want to express a face that's sticking out its tongue:

First, type a colon, like this: :
Second, type a dash, like this: -
Third, type a capital P, like this: P

Doing the above in sequence will give you the following figure:

:-P

So, I hope everyone gets a great deal of use and pleasure from those smilies. Experiment away and customize at will.

KA, I had a very lovely young man serenade me while playing Sex and Candy on his guitar. There are far sexier candies than skittles. ;)

Shades, here's my smilie for you.

Yes, but Shakespeare was able to convey thought through how he spelled words and things like capitalization as shown here:

The grammar Nazis here won't let us use this....... :-) (Did I get this right?)

First off, I don't think any of us can write like Shakespeare.

Second, the use of :-) and :-( looks FAR more juvenile and unprofessional than real smilies.

Third, I have seen MANY a conversation where I thought I was being very clear in my sarcasm, but it turns out I wasn't. A smilie would have prevented a small war.

Come on Shades. The entire board wants them!!

One thing that I find intrusive (and I just did it here) are the HUGE images that some people post in their posts. I don't mind it at all when it's presenting something useful to the topic (KG's images for Book of Abraham for example) but some of the rest of it just gets to me. I think there is a way to satisfy the smiley thing but I'm not going to tell!

It has been said that a million monkeys pecking away at typewriters could eventually produce shakespeare.

I am beginning to see the genius behind the board now.

Dr. Shades!

T. H. Ghost here. Give these people smilies or I will curse you with an extreme case of atomic diarrhea...or a paper cut. Your choice. But it will be painful either way if you don't give these people smilies.
