I seem to recall a conversation a long time ago with Will wherein he said that when people call the church sexist he sees it as a personal attack on his daughters and wife (and by extension on him as a father and husband). So I understand on some level why he said what he said, but it was still wrong and uncalled for.
Well that's just ridiculous, but fascinating in terms of the psychology of identification.
From the Ernest L. Wilkinson Diaries: "ELW dreams he's spattered w/ grease. Hundreds steal his greasy pants."

I agree. I suppose I'm more deserving of mud-slings; I'm not as polite and forgiving as Runtu. No one here can say though I haven't copped it to the hilt. I copped it on RFM and Exmo-Social too, very personal, and very insulting. Steve Benson compared me to the unabomber, and I all I did was express some sentiments about the Book of Mormon, and that let the mobbers out. Some virtually put me on trial on ES because I wasn't of their "mindset".
Not making excuses for anyone. Will was out of line. Some here are also out of line in their nastiness to the Church. So let's look at both sides.
That is what I can't understand. Runtu is one of the most tame posters I've come across on these boards and he gets raked over the coals more than anyone it seems. Maybe it's cause he went from apologist to critic, but it still is weird that he seems to catch alot of flak. *shrugs*
It could also be that some consider tameness to be a ploy namely being passive-agressive. It's not hard to ready something into a post that wasn't intended. Heaven knows it's happened to my posts as well as something I've done to other posts. That's why we have smilies ;) If only that solved the problem.

No excuses. He's an ass if he doesn't apologize.
Charity, what is your view of this?
I agree with Liz. There simply is no excuse for that behavior, especially with the gentle nature of Runtu's posts over there.

Grab your torches and your pitchforks. ;)
Do we really need to use this as some kind of moral litmis test? What Will did was undeniably asinine. Not sure what else to make of it. I mean, I'm not really interested in joining the mob to condemn Will. I'd rather let this thing go after he already got many reprimands from both sides on MA&D.

And how! I dread the most slightly above average bowel movement. I can't imagine what women go through.

Silly Willy. Didn't his momma ever teach him Males shall not compare anything to childbirth including kidney stones, waterboarding, the rack, the iron maiden, or (as he did) the comfy chair (I mean, surely we've all had bishops who sleep on the stand).
I wonder if waterboarding would still be torture if those undergoing it got an epidural?

Actually, they originally only said something like, "be careful of personal comments" to Will. But when I made a stink and they censured me for it, they apparently felt they had to make a show of being even-handed by altering William's red text.
I'm not sure how closely the mods were looking at this thread. They made an early comment, but they may not have been watching all the progress of the thread. This is what Orpheus wrote (bold added):
Not one of you trying to make this a bigger fight have turned in a post report. One of the long time Mormon posters did who wasn't posting. We have had enough of the slams on posters who aren't anywhere to be seen. If you are so obsessed with Juliann or Pahoran that you have to mutter their names no matter what the topic is then get off our board. Will was out of line and he got wallopped good by posters on both sides. The problem is people who want to make it an excuse to bait other posters and this is happening pretty often lately so if you want to snarl at somebody who isn't in the thread then email them

That was up before this thread got started. I think this parting shot by Orpheus was aimed at Scottie (for mentioning Juliann) and CK (for mentioning Juilann and Pahoran) in their last posts before that thread was closed.
