lawsuit, supposed blackmail attempt....

Post by _Bond...James Bond »

A weird little thing I ran across on RfM.
http://www.exmormon.org/boards/w-agora/index.php?site=exmobb&bn=exmobb_recovery

Here's the main blog where the plaintiffs are chronicling their case:
http://lisaandmilhouse.blogspot.com/sea ... -results=4

The main thing I can pick out is that the plaintiffs rejected the religious beliefs of their spouses, and that the spouses attempted to coerce their "apostate" spouses back into the church.

The LDS Church as a whole isn't involved in anyway (that I could tell). It just happened to be the church to which they all belonged.

Please correct me if I got any of it wrong...just an interesting bit of information I ran across.

Reading the complaint I don't think the case will hold up. Then again, I'm only an amateur lawyer.

Obviously an amateur attempt to take out some anger at the church. It will be easily disposed of by competent counsel for the defendants. I'd expect a motion for summary judgment based on (1) failure to state a claim for which relief may be given; and (2) failure to file within the applicable statute of limitations.

The complaint is jibberish; there's no fiduciary duty between a child and her parent; it's generally BS. Sorry.

But they will probably get quite a bit of money out of the guillible ex-Mormons. Notice their little "dontate" button? Estimates are that when the Tanners filed their suit against FAIR on the registration of domain names, which was dismissed rather quickly, they took in a lot more for donations to their legal fund than they could have possibly paid their lawyers.

Bond, can you do a proper link to RFM? Thanks. Click on the specific thread and go into properties, then link the URL address in properties. Linking it through the main URL only gives us the general board.

Charity, I have three specific questions for you:

Do you think a child who is abused by a parent should be able to sue that parent for damages?

Do you believe anyone who is abused and tells clergy who fails to report it should be able to bring action against the clergy who failed to report it?

Do you believe anyone who leaves an abusive spouse should expect the support of their clergy?
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.

CFR

Whose "estimates"?

I'm curious why you think you know how much was donated to the Tanners.
