Latest Ensign Article--Living a Balanced Life
When I read the title, I thought, "this is the most ironic statement any Mormon magazine could make."
Since when is the Mormon lifestyle balanced?
This chalks right up there with "Families...isn't it about time?"

Mormon Lifestyle:
Spirituality, Educational Development, Family, Friendship, Recreation, Personal Development.....what are LDS missing?
"Surely he knows that DCP, The Nehor, Lamanite, and other key apologists..." -Scratch clarifying my status in apologetics
"I admit it; I'm a petty, petty man." -Some Schmo

I dunno. Last I checked, Elder Packer was telling a certain group of church educators not to give "equal time" to the adversary. I guess living a balanced life doesn't necessitate obtaining balanced information.
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

Separate issue. Asking Church educators to give equal time to the Adversary is like advocating that science teachers teach ID along with Evolution. Church educators are there to teach the doctrines of the kingdom, not lay out the pros and cons of Church membership.

Recreational drugs are a cop-out. The real challenge is to get your brain to that state without such crutches.

Church education and the ID debate are separate issues. ID simply isn't science. If ID had merit, then equal time would have its place.
But granted, church educators are there to teach the doctrines. However, I think they are also there to lay out the pros of Church membership. They simply aren't there to lay out the cons (unless that con is that you'll be judged harder for knowing more).
All that aside, do you believe that a balanced life does not necessitate having balanced information? That was my main question.

It comes more naturally for some of us (although I admit that staying up late, playing lots of video games, and having nerdy friends helps).

It does but there's no balance anymore for me. Trying to convince me that I need a balanced view about God existing at this point is like saying I need to balance my theories of the Earth's shape by studying with the Flat-Earthers so I can make a balanced decision. For some it will be the same as me. For others, very different.
