One thing I seem to be seeing more and more from the apologist camp is that if you believe in Christ, that it shouldn't be such a stretch to believe in Mormonism.
After all, they are both taken on faith, right? How can you believe the Bible and Christianity, but scoff at the Book of Mormon and Mormonism?
In a way, I can see the validity of this argument on the surface.
However, deeper down, there really isn't much evidence that proves God, Jesus and the Bible false. Yet, there is a host of evidence that appears to contradicts Mormonism being a true religion. Obviously this evidence is subject to personal interpretation, but most people interpret this as Mormonism being false.
What are your thoughts?

So much of LDS apologetics against evangelicals is of the Samson quality. They don't care if LDS arguments are destroyed as long as they also wipe out Ev ones.Scottie wrote:One thing I seem to be seeing more and more from the apologist camp is that if you believe in Christ, that it shouldn't be such a stretch to believe in Mormonism.

I think a common misconception people have is - if something cannot be proven false, it is equally likely to be true. I think Russell dispelled this theory better than anyone in the last hundred years.
I think there is plenty of evidence contradicting the Bible's literal claims, but most people have simply stopped claiming to believe a literal interpretation of the Biblical text.
This lends no credibility whatsoever to the Bible or Christianity, it only says that we are better off not taking the book seriously.

I agree with you. Hence the ol' "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence". Apologists seem to think that someday the smoking gun will be found and Mormonism will be proven true.
And, if you're going to accept one thing on faith, you should really allow yourself to accept Mormonism on faith too. Cause, well, look at the fruits!!
