I suspect foul play.

Good try, but inaccurate. My understanding was that he was with his family.

I don't think he was rich, and his medical care would have been gladly shouldered by any number of members who really are rich.

Boaz, some days, you take stupid to an entirely new level. Good grief.

Then that narrows down the list of suspects.

His own family, for heaven's sake . . . oh, the humanity!

Why is it sad? He was 97 for cripes sakes!

Were people hoping for 10 more years?

Were there some things he did not complete? Besides the Mega Mo'mall.

Doesn't matter how old he was, Boaz. He's gone. It's sad. Get over yourself.

Actually this is not that sad of a news at all, even if this person was my father or my mother...
Why should every human regard someone's passing with sadness?
Especially when this man lived a long fruitful life.

I am sad because like him or not he was a gregarious leader, accessible to the media and he had a great sense of humor. He has led the Church in many ways for almost 25 year, most of my adult life. His voice is a familiar one. I liked him. I will miss him. On the other hand I am happy for him that he did not linger like so many other church presidents. He had his mental capacity right up to the end. And he had a very long and full life.

According to the Tribune article he worked right up to the end. He was at his office this past Friday.

So, Inconceivable, if you'd care to answer on such a thread, I'd be curious to hear why you think Gordon B. Hinckley would have been uniquely positioned to know that the LDS church is not what it purports to be.

Not interested, Don.

I am not grieving for him that he has died. I don't miss him. I appreciate that others do.

I am grieving in a different way. I thought he was my friend all of my life. The things I discovered over the past several years placed a great burden on my relationship with him. I feel personally betrayed by him. At one time, I would have died for him.

My family has been all but abandoned and we have been grieving this loss for some time now. He could have done something about this but he perpetuated the lies of his fathers. Surely he knew.

He was not a prophet.

If it was claimed he was merely a president, he would still have much of my respect.

(insignificant as I am in the scheme of things)

Do you know the song by Linda Ronstadt...Poor, poor pitiful me.... you should adopt it as your theme song. Sorry. I usually am sympathetic to people as they struggle with issues and the Church. But really your whole life has not ended. I as well as many others here have had their beliefs and faith modified and don't constantly whine about it. Of course we all deal with it in our own way. But man, you are pretty crass about this.

I have no doubt President Hinckley believes sincerely all he said. What he knows and does not know about LDS hisotry is irrelevant. He has a Church to run and balance to keep. Do I think that some of the details that we all struggle and complain about should be more openly presented? Yes. Do I understand how difficult a balance the Church leaders have in this area? Yes. It is not a simple thing.

So quit crying in your cheerios man and be a man and deal with it. Have a little empathy too.

Interesting you should mention that! I was unaware of his diabetic condition, but suspected it. In a recent BYU commencement activity photo, his face was somewhat swollen from water retention, and through his socks, the ankles were visibly swollen too. that's a tough condition to deal with in the advanced years for sure.
