Steve walks warily down the street,
With the brim pulled way down low
ain't no sound but the sound of his feet,
Machine guns ready to go
Are you ready, are you ready for this
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat
And crawling on the planet's face
Some insects called the human race
Lost in time
And lost in space...and meaning

How soon before any or all of Hinckley's teachings are moved to the "personal opinion" bucket?

Some of his teachings certainly will. Those teachings that came by the spirit of revelation will not.

How long really, will this silly "official doctrine" charade continue among the critics?

How long will the silly "true doctrine" charade continue among the Mormons?

The "'official doctrine' charade" was started--and continues to be perpetuated--by the Internet Mormons, not the critics.

Wow. That post just leaves me breathless.

Charity, do you think President Monson will actually get to see God or Jesus? Will God's Chosen Servant finally receive the Second Comforter in the form of Jesus Christ in person, as Pres. Hinckley did not? Do you think it's important for a Special Witness of Jesus Christ actually to see Jesus Christ in person?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Interesting thought. Maybe there already is. Maybe he/she is not Mormon, but there could already be one on the planet. No?

I had a dream of a prophet that wasn't Mormon but the Mormons followed him, as did non LDS people. He really was something special and as most of my dreamscome to be, I would say watch out people.

He brought something amazing in my dream, I was stood next to him, so I would say it is in my lifetime, or maybe I was in a different body. He worked with everyone.

GBH himself never seemed very comfortable with that title/role. I never heard him describe himself as a "prophet." When asked pointblank by Larry King, GBH responded, "I am so sustained." Hardly a bold pronouncement of his prophethood, in my opinion.

Well, we'll know they've picked the next Mormon prophet when we see white smoke coming from the top of the Salt Lake temple.

Wait...wrong religion. Oops! ;)

I think the reason for this is that Pres Hinckley was an honest man, and he knew he had never prophesied anything. He couldn't claim that which he knew to not be correct. Besides, if he claimed to be the prophet, someone would surely ask him why he didn't tell anyone about 9/11. He simply ran the church the best he knew how, for as long as he could, and then he put it all on TSM's desk and laid down and gave up the ghost.
