Jewel, Eliza Dushku, and Cristina Aguilera were all raised LDS (though in Jewel's case only to about the age of 8). Jewel even wrote some poetry about the ostracism of members her family in their Alaska ward when her father left her mother for another woman. I believe she was actually born in Utah Valley.

Moksha posted pictures of Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and George W. One out of three is a failing grade, but...yes, Ted Bundy did join the LDS church during his stint in Utah. At the time of his first arrest on suspicion of murder, Bundy was a Sunday School teacher (though only recently baptized). Ward members, thinking his arrest a preposterous mistake, sent him cards and the like while he was in jail. Bundy's conversion is, of course, extremely suspect to say the least. It's quite bizarre to think he could have had a conversion to any religious faith between serial killings, and then kept on going.... Tragically, by the way, one of Bundy's victims was a 14-year-old girl abducted from a youth conference--I believe it was an EFY at BYU.

Bundy did not retain and never touted his formal adherence to Mormonism. He was no doubt excommunicated at some point, while in prison. Any who saw his last interview, with Dr. James Dobson, however, will remember his death-bed conversion to evangelical Christianity, which is supposed to have allowed him to spend eternity in heaven while his LDS victims, having never had his same opportunity of death-bed repentance, languish in hell. O the awful justice of God. <puke>

I think SOME of you people are forgetting the important ones:

Ah Mormondom, the seat of ska!

by the way, no one has mentioned Captain Kangaroo. I liked him--still remember him very fondly. I have to smile right now as I do remember.

Don't know if any of you know of Barney Fyfe, a ska band out of Vegas?

Steuss? They were all around Vegas our senior year.

What on earth makes you think they were?

What a relief. The way some people here talk about Mormons, one would natural assume these dudes were Mormon. I guess some information just seems slanted at times.

The Aquabats? The Aquabats???? Anybody seen the head AB's new children's television show "Yo Gabba Gabba?" It has its moments, but usually great music. Mark Mothersbaugh shows up on it now and then. And some of the kid dancers are crazy great. I'm not into all the characters though. Muno and Foofa are ok (though Muno is a tad scary phallic and Foofa something of a LaLa rip-off), Brobee seems mentally challenged and Toodie's species mutation disturbing (fish cat?). Plex is one sorry ass robot, too. I'm pretty sure I've run into DJ Lance somewhere, somewhere with loud music and runny noses.

The aquabats incorporated huge costumed "creatures" into their shows back in the late nineties. I wonder if that's where they got them?

I remember the name, but I can’t say I’ve ever heard them. The only Las Vegas ska band that I recall from that era was Attaboy Skip (the drummer of which is now the drummer of the Killers).

There’s a documentary about him that’s pretty good. I loved when he describes his confirmation that the Book of Mormon is “true.” He said it was like an acid trip from the Lord.

I went and saw them once at the Huntridge. The only thing I remember is that one of the guys made pancakes throughout the entire show, and was flinging them out into the audience.
