Captain Kangaroo was a Mormon? I had no idea!

I liked him, too! And Mr. Green Jeans. And Bill Cosby's Picture Pages! Oh, how I wanted Picture Pages, but Mom never got around to ordering them...

Now, I liked Captain Kangaroo, but I LOVED Mr. Rogers. I still do. I remember where I was when I learned he died--waiting in the doctor's office. I almost cried right there. He was such a fine man.

KA

PS - In case I've created confusion by mentioning him in this thread, I want to add that Mr. Rogers was not a Mormon. He was an ordained Presbyterian minister.

Rafe? He didn't win did he?

(I thought he looked like a leprachaun).

No - Todd Herzog from pleasant grove won!

I didn't know that he was Mormon. I do recall reading that during his stint as Clarabell the clown on Howdy Doody, just before they would go live, he would yell, "All right you kids, shut up!"

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the Osmonds? Are Mormons proud of them?

Steve Young could be considered a source of pride... were he not working every Sunday.

What about Gordon Jump? (He's the guy who played the station manager on WKRP in Cincinnati and the Maytag repair man). Pretty sure I heard he was a Mormon. Course, he seemed like a decent enough guy.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Joyce McKinney.

She was a somewhat infamous Osmond stalker in the early 70's before her stint kidnapping a missionary in England. She used to fly down to Vegas every weekend from Provo just to join Osmond groupies at their Vegas performances.

She was a scary person. It was no surprise to a lot of us when she ended up in the tabloids.

There is a rather lurid link regarding her that can be found on Google (it's also linked on Wikipedia), but I won't be posting it here. Those with any interest can find it.

Everybody loved him. Shoot, he was the voice of Peter in the temple film (I believe it was Peter - it's been a very long time).

What on earth makes you think they were?

What a relief. The way some people here talk about Mormons, one would natural assume these dudes were Mormon. I guess some information just seems slanted at times.

Satan was a Mormon too, until he fell.

I think Gordon Jump was always considered in the "good LDS celebrity" rather than "bad Mormon celebrity" category, particularly for being in the LDS temple film.

I don't think those people would be considered celebrities (except that their crimes might have made them infamous). Actually, Joyce McKinney wasn't all that famous as a Mormon, either, until she kidnapped the missionary.
