That's just the Libbrul Media at it again, using terms that make the church look bad. The prophet is NOT Bob Guccione, fer cryin' out loud. He's never even read Penthouse.
Ahh... yes it's the evil liberal media's fault. Someone listens to Rush a little too much..
Flip, I never listened to Rush. They were too hard rock for me. I preferred Barry Manilow and Marie Osmond. Mmmm, Paper Roses still makes my heart go pitter-pat.
(okay, I apologize for the ineffective attempt at humor)
I think that that Dr. Shades and the quorum of mormondiscussions seventies should write to Salt Lake and suggest that the LDS prophet should live in a small one room apartment complete with dishwasher and perhaps an airconditioner. This way the critics would have nothing to complain about. I might suggest that the apartment in question should resemble the apartment of Mr Krueger in Mr. Krueger's Christmas below street level. That should keep the critic bite off the church for a a while. Yep, that is for sure.

I don't think anyone is complaining, just explaining.
Some people don't know where he lives. Some people ask. Some people have conversations and speculation about it. I don't see a lot of criticism, except when it comes to discussions of "no paid clergy," which is a separate issue.
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.

Nah, then we'd bitch about how a church as wealthy as the LDS can't even take care of their prophet properly. This type of stuff used to bug me, but now I'm of the opinion if you're dumb enough to give your money to the church, don't complain about what they spend it on. If Thomas Monson drove to conference in a Caddy Escalade, dressed like a pimp, covered in bling, with hot bitchez hanging off each arm, why should I care? He's not spending my money.

There would still be plenty of things to complain about.
FYI, eagle gate apartments is owned by Zions Securities Corporation. Zions Securities Corporation is owned by Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by the LDS church.
Free rent for the prophet?
WK: "Joseph Smith asserted that the Book of Mormon peoples were the original inhabitants of the americas"
Will Schryver: "No, he didn’t." 3/19/08
Still waiting for Will to back this up...

Yes, that's generally well known by many and assumed by others.
We know that the prophet lives rent free, used to be in the top of the (former) Hotel Utah, now in the top of Eagle Gate Apartments, and that those properties are owned and managed by the LDS Church. He also receives a stipend.

This whole thread was started because some person on MA&D was 'boasting' about how humble Pres. Hinkley lived compared to other religious leaders.
Compared to the Pope's "house", I'd say hell yeah, it's more humble.
I don't know what the big deal is - I'd expect nothing less than for the church to have some place for its leader to live. A 2400 square foot condo atop a mid-rise in downtown SLC is certainly not extravagant. Seems just about right to me. Now if they resurrected Michelangelo to paint the ceiling, then that may be a bit over the top.
I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe / But at least I'm enjoying the ride.
