What if he didn't really ever turn someone into a pillar of salt? What if that's just mythology, Why Me?
What if he didn't really ever speak from a burning bush? What if that's just mythology, Why Me?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
This has to be the most stunning display of willful stupidity I've ever seen. Charity, literally, is choosing to be stupid. Literally. You cannot read these words and come away not knowing, on any level, that the Book of Mormon was plagiarized by 1) a man that was simply 2) writing a book. It's impossible. It's like looking at a STOP sign, and refusing to acknowledge that it is red, and you're to stop. This isn't a case of ignorance. This isn't someone being misinformed. This is a willful, deliberate act of mental self-sabotage.
That, my friends, is not healthy. Not now. Not ever. Mormonism. Phew.

Now if a book tht claimed to be a second witness of Christ did not agree with the Bible, I would call a fake and a phoney piece of work. For the book to be legit, it would need to correlate with the Bible whether through direct referencing or summarizing.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

why me wrote:The Bible could not have been in the hat because I would think that the pages would be difficult to turn from inside a hat.
I don't really have anything to say to this; I just wanted to repost it.
Well, you see, here is the problem. A few months ago, many critics were singing praises to the south park episode where they showed Joseph Smith translating from a hat. They lavished praise on that episode because of it. They got a real hoot out of it and hoped that members would see and begin to question the truthfulness of the church. The critics have usually bought into the hat trick.
And so, I want to know just how he did it all from a hat. How to memorize passages from the Bible while looking in a hat??
The dill pickle is hard to eat at times.
According to Charity, there was a mini-Ouija board in that hat.
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.

Either start using Shades poor imitations for smilies to indicate you are joking, or knock off the statements that so vilely misrepresent what I say.
Thanks.
:)
Charity, if you're going to dish it out, you're just going to have to take it.
Now, back to that Ouija board. Did you or did you not say that you thought Joseph Smith looked into the hat and "the words appeared to him?"
Of course I don't think that was a Ouija board, literally. But aren't you suggesting a similar principle, one that could be viewed by others as something the same as looking into a crystal ball, or using a Ouija board? Something like the sorting hat in Harry Potter movies?
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.
why me wrote:To listen to the critics on this thread, it is quite amazing that the book wasn't laughed at from the very beginning and received so many converts. My gosh, just how stupid were people at that time that they didn't see the similiarities? I mean, to read this thread, I suddenly get the impression that the whole Book of Mormon is a plagary. And yet, at the time of Joseph Smith, more and more converts were baptized.
But I still can't figure out why they didn't see the forgery right off the bat during Joseph Smith's time. My gosh, people must have been stupid then!
Or they received a satisfactory answer from Joseph Smith or from Emma and whomever was around at that time. To assume that such questions didn't come up and were answered would be a stretch.
Yes, because scientology, the moonies and other crackpot BS similar in behavior to the Mormons is SO IRRATIONAL that their membership is suffering. It isn't.
charity wrote:3. For those who persist in the face of undeniable evidence, there is still the question of how Joseph could have accomplished it. If you still claim he copied pages from the KJV, just how did he do it in front of witnesses without them knowing? As anti’s love to point out, Joseph had his face in a hat. That also means there was no room for pages to read from, and no light to read them if there had been.
I'd say that when Joseph didn't trot out the magic-rock-in-a-hat trick for interested parties, he had the Bible, the Spalding document, etc. spread across the desk behind the blanket strung up between himself and Oliver.
100% my belief. Magicians use a blanket to conceal their tricks and this wasn't done on stage with all the spectators in full view 100% of the time like in Vegas. It was controlled environment, controlled by Joseph. I think Joseph staged the times when he showed his wares. Sometimes used the hat trick sometimes he didn't and used or staged some other method. Thus the different accounts of the methods of "translation", dictation, presentation or whatever.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably. bcspace
