As I noted above, the "rules" are not clearly defined with regard to "duty in the church" and are subjectively applied. Just saying.

He was a football player, come on. He deserved a free education as much as the Mormon elites deserve free education at BYU.

screw em all.

Exactly! If the article is correct (and that's always questionable in our media), it said he had attended 6 of 11 times, and didn't "ask for a calling."

Give me a break!

Unless that is spelled out, I doubt most Mormons go knocking on the bish's door and say "please, please, give me a calling! I don't have enough to do with school, work, and raising a family in Provo...."

And then there is the subjectivity of the bishop. Believe me, and I doubt anyone with experience in Mormonism will disagree with me, there is a vast difference between bishops. Some have great compassion and empathy, others are the "iron Rod" type that live by the letter of the law. At BYU Elementary, some see there "calling" as raising the kids there. Whatever.

This is the stupidest thing coming out of BYU since.....well, since the doobieheads protesting Gold's gym.

I didn't go because I didn't want to live under that kind of scrutiny. If you don't like it, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!

People make BYU sound like a fascist police state....with the small issue that entering the state is voluntary.

Anyone else find it a little sad that he stated he went to BYU to be around people with the same standards.....standards he seems to have not lived.

Because he didn't have 100% church attendance he didn't have the right standards? Puh-lease!

Wake up, people, we are hearing ONE SIDE of the story. And the other side cannot speak out.

Talk about gullible. Dad said this, and he is absolutely correct and has no reason to fudge a little to protect his son. You guys keep talking about how we are supposed to be skeptical and examine evidence and look for the truth behind the outward facts. I guess you don't believe that.

Oh, so what are the rules? That he can't be sick? That he can't attend another ward? That he must attend 100% of the time no matter what?

Exactly. Six out of eleven times he was at his BYU student ward, and the rest of the Sundays he was either visiting his home ward, sick or it was Conference? Please.

He didn't break any rules. He's being subjected to unrighteous dominion.

I must have gotten my annual endorsements from my home bishop, because I certainly can't remember having to be subjected to any local branch/ward branch president/bishop for one.

If ecclesiastical endorsements are going to amount to perfect attendance in church, I imagine a lot of BYU students are sitting up and taking notice.

I'm particularly surprised that they're clamping down on an athlete at BYU; when I was there, athletes got lots of special exemptions for rules that applied to other students, academic and otherwise.

I suspect there's more to this story, and we're just not hearing it. I would also look to this student ward bishop being released in the very near future.
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.

And, like FAIR in the McCue situation, BYU has deleted the content on their website related to Participate regularly in church services.

He barely had 50%. In every school I've attended that's a failing grade.
