Once you go black you never go back, or so I've heard.

Although I've never been anything other than black (in the metaphorical sense), I like to think that if some astonishing archaeological evidence for the Book of Mormon were discovered, I'd be one of the first of the critics to sign up with the Church of Christ.

Thanks for posting that, Pok. I have my doubts about the hypothesis presented, but it was very interesting to read.

I have my doubts too, it just seems eerily close to arguments for and against the Book of Mormon.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably.

HAHA! I'm with you. This line particularly screamed full-circle apologetics to me:

What possible anomaly in the arcane process of translation would account for the apparent anachronistic mention of cars and trains?

I read that and thought, rather than looking for an explanation for it, why not look at it as evidence that your hypothesis is suspect?

Let's say its "true." No. I would not want to have anything to do with that kind of god.

All I can say is that they'd have to install a decent buffet before I go anywhere near a Mormon church.

That's basically what I said too. Except you said it better...

For me the question would be, "what would it take for you to believe in the truth claims of the LDS church?"

The answer:

It would take me moving into an alternative universe, getting a new brain where what seems wrong becomes right, and what seems right becomes wrong, finding out I was a victim of some sort of medical experiment where everything was not as it is, or something along these lines.

;-)

Similar to what it would take for me to believe in Zeus, Aliens, the Corn God, or any other mythological/religious stories. I do not say this with disrespect, it is just that to me, at the core I think all religions/cults/myths are from the same source.

However, if I ever came across a belief that resonated with my heart and mind, I would most certainly consider it. :-) At this point science and real life experience seems to give me the most believable, peaceful and comforting sense of reality.
